in all truth, i don't have a lot against ron paul -- after all, at least he's interested in proper civil liberties. however, i consider him a subpar candidate because:
a) he endorses the extremely naive economics of the austrian school, and even worse: treats them as dogma
b) he wants to abolish potentially useful institutions rather than reform them
c) he believes in the mystical powers of the unadulterated free market -- understand, this is religion to the lolbertarians
d) he cleaves to the gold standard, demonstrating a poor grasp of the sociology of currency in general
e) he has some of the stupidest, most literal-minded followers ever -- they make obama's cultists look like a bauhaus
f) he's also a hypocrite and mummer in the fashion of most politicos, especially when it comes to state's issues and race issues
i trust no-one who factors out or reduces human nature to preach a utopian vision, although it lends him a certain surety that's difficult to assail
