Death Race aka Twisted Metal: The Movie

I just got back from DEATH RACE.  It was pretty awesome.  If they were ever going to make a Twisted Metal movie, and borrowed some elements from Wipeout XL, this is what it would be like.  I really thought the trailer made the movie look stupid, so I was kind of just going to this because my girlfriend wanted to go.  Boy am I glad I did.  It turned out to be really fun and enjoyable.  I don't want to spoil anything, but there's a LOT of shit in there that reminds me of Twisted Metal.  I mean a LOT. 

So did anyone else see it?  Can we start a spoilered discussion?

And no, not Carmageddon.  I know there was no racing in Twisted Metal, but the cars in the movie looked like Twisted Metal cars.  Throw in the racing and glowing man-hole covers that initiate powerups and you've got the Wipeout XL I mentioned in my first post.

And the "surprise" contestant they threw in there was REALLY a nod to Twisted Metal.  If you have seen the movie, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

Okay, there's a big nod to Twisted Metal when "The Dreadnaught" enters one of the races.  Its basically a super-version of Twisted Metal Black's "Minion" boss.  Its pretty fuckin cool.  Think big.  Real big.

And like Mojo said, its "loosely" based on Death Race 2000.  Its not cross-country, its a race around a prison complex with 3 laps.  Lap 1 is with weapons off.  Lap 2, the manhole covers glow and if you run over one, you get your offensive or defensive weapons activated.  There are returning characters like Machine Gun Joe and Frankenstein, but they have been "modified".  One's gay and the other is not a scarred freak.  I'll let you figure that one out.

A lot of changes were made, but its fun.  Just turn off your brain and enjoy the spectacle of grim-looking cars decked out in heavy armor with gory deaths, LOUD weapons, and hot chicks.
