What was your fastest mile run?
« on: August 25, 2008, 01:25:18 AM »
The current Olympic champ ran about 26 miles at a slightly quicker pace than 1 mile/5mins.

Ridiculous! I think my fastest time was 7.5 minutes.

I used to run track and cross country, wasn't very fast, I remember what my mile time was though.

Cajole, your time is pretty badass for a normal dude.  Did you do cross country?

I was a pretty good sprinter but my long distance endurance was garbage.  I also swam in HS but I never did anything more than 100M.

My body just doesn't seem to be built for endurance.   :-\

Nope. I actually hate running. Had to do run a 6 minute mile for a baseball team (which is fucking distinguished mentally-challenged). Obviously I failed. :lol

Ha, that is pretty distinguished mentally-challenged.  Other than bowling, I can't think of a sport with more fatties than Baseball.

Had to do run times while trying out for a soccer team. I don't remember what the requirement was but by the end of the season I was doing 6:00. Couldn't keep the pace for more than 4 miles though

I haven't run in ages though, and with my injury I doubt I'll pick it up anytime soon.

Last time I tried was in 9th grade or something.  I was a lazy ass in High School and always ditched out when they required you to do it.  I'll try again some day.

That at least makes sense compared to Cajole's case.  Soccer players have pretty amazing endurances.  They basically run at almost full speed for more than an hour.

I remember the first time doing it in 9th grade.  It almost killed me 'cause I was overweight till 11th grade.  I think I ran a 10:30.

After I lost 50lbs, I was fast but I still couldn't ran long distances.

5:35 was my best in high school. (For baseball!  :-\) Usually, I clocked in around 6:10.

15 years later and it takes all my effort just to do a 7 minute mile.

As long as I have comfortable shoes I can do it. If your shoes aren't good it'll start feeling like someone's slapping the soles of your feet with a paddle  :-\

Soccer was hard as fuck; I used to make fun of the team until I joined. I was on the basketball team and the soccer guys would always laugh at our practices, which pissed me off especially during suicides. Then I joined the team and did suicides on a soccer field. omg  :lol

training for soccer -and- rugby in the season overlap was disgusting.

~ sprint to the half way line in soccer, jog back until the trainer decides you've had enough
~ sprint/hit tackle bag every 5 meters or so to the half way line, then jog back until the trainer decided you've had enough

offie? the office? thats 20 miles...even as the cajole flies id be looking at a little over 2 hours.

5:03 back in high school cross country.  It's actually a very relaxing sport if you can get into it - running mainly through backroads and trails at a steady pace.

That's actually a good idea, MAF.  Run to the office every day and you won't need to watch your diet anymore.

Who cares about endurance? I can take any of you in a short dash race.  For someone who was lazy and out of shape, I was (and think I still am) surprisingly fast when it came to short sprints.

Ooh I'd like to take you up on that challenge. The fastest mile I ran was 5:30 for track in 8th grade. I've become a much better sprinter than long-distance runner though.

I remember doing that in junior high and high school. I think I ran a mile somewhere around 7:45. I don't time myself anymore, but I'm sure I'm a lot slower now.

That was in 7th grade.  I was proud of that because I was a sprinter and had no actual endurance, which is why for track I always did the 100m and 200m.  So getting down that low was awesome for me.  Never ran it again though.

in high school, when they forced us to run the mile for that national fitness test bullshit, the teacher really slipped up by mentioning that anything under 15 minutes would pass you but if you took longer than 15 minutes you'd fail.

a friend and i decided to take advantage of this, and needless to say we strolled the entire time at a pretty lesiurely pace and talked, then ran the last lap. we both clocked in at 14:42, kind of a disappointment as i wanted to cut it closer to 15 just to piss off my gym teacher.

we both got D's in gym but man was it fun pissing that teacher off.

After jogging for about three miles, I jumped on a high school dirt track and ran a pretty sad 7:16. I has a hard time gaining or maintaining a decent speed because I'm not used to running a fast pace. I also shouldn't have had that Big Mac meal earlier.  :-X
