Yeah, it is pretty pathetic how they're all jumping on the Disgaea bandwagon cause it's the only JRPG on the PS3 this Fall. I wonder how many will hate it, but still play through it anyways. The original Disgaea took a long time to grow on me back in the day, but it finally clicked and now they're a ton of fun.

*It's not as funny as those who think X Edge will be a good game, though!

i'll be playing it, but only because i'm a looney PS3 fanboy -- it has nothing to do with the fact that i loved the first two disgaea games and can't wait to play the next installment of the best SRPG.  gameflying it though, so they'll be shipping it on the 29th .

yeah, a reprogrammed xbot (i think his name was speevy-nator) came from the future and told me disgaea 3 was a PS3 exclusive, and my mission was to artificially hype disgaea 3 in order to win the console war.  i knew i'd have to like it and seem legit, so i went and bought disgaea 1.  i hated it, but with the help of the reprogrammed xbot, i was able to play it -- after all, it was my mission to lead the PS3 fanboy army against the xbots in the future - it was my destiny.  i even bought phantom brave and disgaea 2 to prepare for the war that was foretold to me. 

and here i stand today.

I played so much Disgaea when it first came out that it totally burned me out the NIS style of SRPG.

Not really into the NIS style of SRPG myself... seems waaaaay too gimmicky. Didn't care much for the first Disgaea, though Phantom Brave was kinda cool. Still... it's a game for the PS3 that probably won't suck... and those are extremely rare. So who knows? I might get it.

this could had been the ultimate test for downloadable updates. A console-only release with patches fixing bugs and so on. Its gonna be interesting to see how much money the arcade version will bring in..

Hell no.  I'm not falling for the Disgaea internet hype trap again.  I spent weeks looking for the first game and when I finally got a hold of it I spent an hour and was fucking disgusted after the fist hour.

Lesson learned - never trust game recommendations from people with anime avatars.

I briefly played the first game, and found it to be a SRPG with hardly any strategy involved.  It mainly just composed of you recruiting and powerleveling your characters and abusing AI patterns/glitches to be successful.

Oh well, wonder if it'll do better than Spectral Force 3 did, they look about as good as each other, although Disgaea has some sort of hype around it for some reason.

Spectral Force never saw release outside Japan until 3. The Disgaea series has a history and an existing fanbase in North America, thanks to 2 PS2 titles and a remake on the PSP.
