Eh, I'm getting one, but it's because I'm:
1) Too cheap to pay $60 for games in most cases
2) Not ever gonig to stomach a $600 PS3
3) Not getting any gaming out of my X360 premium. Dead Rising is the only game coming out for a long time that I'm even interested in.

On the rare occasions that I game, I might as well do it as cheaply as possible.

If that 711 promo is true and the Wii retails at $300, Nintendo can go fuck themselves. I really want a Wii, but come on: it's arguable that it's even worth half of $300.

I'm getting one, primarily for the Genesis and Hudson stuff that's going to be on the virtual console. The GCN compatibility will also come in handy as my Cube died about 10 minutes into Metroid Prime 2 and I'd REALLY like to finish that.

I suppose the crazypants Waggle-powered games would be worth a try, but I'm still pretty skeptical.

Don't worry Drinky, I'm on your side.  Why pay 200+ for a machine worth maybe 120 at best, to play last gen games and more of the same tired Nintendo shit?

If Wii is a big success it will be terrible for gamers.  :/  We may never get another console where the manufacturer takes a loss to give us cutting edge hardware at a mass market price.

I kind of doubt any real games will utilize the remote fully. Sounds more like mini games and stuff.

Virtual console, meh, that's what emulators are for.

I'm actually quite annoyed at the remote control scheme, can you still use the classic controller shell for every game? it's really neat-looking too

I don't give a damn about moving a remote around to execute actions, I just want to press buttons :P

Ordered already.  I have a daughter, and I really think the intuitive controls will help her get into gaming. . .more.

Plus it looks interesting.  Much more so than the X1.5 or the ps3witty name about insane price goes here).

I agree- I think it'll give me a chance to share my pasttime with non-gaming friends as well as giving me a new style of gaming. The only thing I'm worried about is a gamecube-style death.

New style? More intuitive? It's a lateral shift in controls. Once the novelty of waving a wand instead of pressing a button or a direction wears off, you'll simply be left with a glitchier alternative to regular controls. It's a placebo, not a panacea, for your gaming ennui.

If your friends or family didn't want to play games previously, waggling a wand will no more entice them than pressing buttons did.

Why do you put a question mark after more intuitive?  Obviously, since moving the controller is something most people do when they learn to play videogames. . .a controller that lets that work is going to be more intuitive.

I'm getting the Wii mainly for my 3 year old.  Where's an eyerolling smiley when you need one?

There's a big leap from observing n00b behavior to actually implementing software support for an arbitrary range of 3D motion in software such that flailing translates into something meaningful and is adequately compensated for. Chances are, their flailing will be just as much noise and there will be a fixed set of "correct" motions for Wii games that will need to be learned and mastered, or that a waggle will be treated identically to a button press (see: Red Steel).

Besides, which Wii launch title actually translates the typical flailing of a new gamer into gameplay technique? Even the Sonic game is sub-intuitive and relies on novelty controls.

Certain games like SSBB use it. Of course not all games will use it. It would make no sense for stuff like WarioWare and Wii Sports.

Much like the stylus on DS, certain games use, certain ones do not

Well that is coming to GameCube to so you're fine. But if someone expects WarioWare, Wii Sports, Metroid..etc to control normally then that is a bit silly to expect since those games were built around the controller.

Is there any way to convince you they could do small movements?  The point is to have a more intuitive way to control what's happening in scenarios that we've all played a lot of times in games.  You are more likely to create more action if you have a waggle wand, if you codify the button lay-out to make it logical then it'll be fun.

Take God Of War for example, the square and triangle buttons difference is that one is a weak attack and the other is a strong attack.  You wouldn't be able to use it well unless you memorized all your combos.

You attack based on your angle to the person (control the camera with the wiimote) and you press buttons that say what whether you dodge, slash, shoot, etcetera.  Think like Too Human but a lot quicker and hectic.
