Good? Bad? So So?

Good "old school" (sorta) style 2.5D fighter with a cheesy RPG-like fantasy theme.  Feels pretty different from Arc's other games.  Online is good for the most part, but then just about every match I have had was with someone in Japan.  I can't remember if a downloadable demo ever came out on 360, but there is one for the J-PS3.

The game apparently bombed pretty hard over here; I think the combined sales on both platforms was like 5000.  I double-dipped on this game originally, but got rid of the PS3 version recently.  People had a BAD habit of dropping when they lost a fight.  I beat the #2 ranked guy one time and he quit on me, resulting in MY stats getting fucked and everything getting reset to 0.  This problem does not happen on the 360.  If the U.S. version is region-free and/or the PS3 version does come in English, I might get it again in English too.

How is the AI? I dont do online fighting? Standard 1-8 difficulty levels in arcade mode? Thats usually enough for me. How is the fighting system? It looks pretty unique setting wise.

A.I. is typical Arc I suppose.  There's very easy, easy, normal, hard, and very hard settings.  You get Arcade, Time Attack, Survival, AND Story modes so there's enough single player content.  Story mode has a LOT of dialogue, but it's ultra-cheesy.  IIRC if you get 100% in story mode you get another outfit for your character.

Yeah, it does have a unique look.  It's pretty nice, bright and more cheerful than a lot of other fighters, and in some ways kinda reminds of Powerstone with some of the music and "genki" characters.

EDIT: I have it in now and no one seems to be playing.  The same dude is still ranked #1 from months ago and my rank is at 350 despite having not played in a couple of months.  I hope the U.S. gets the online going again.

Oh, and what I like about the game play is the more old school, Street Fighter-style feel.  There is a parry system of sorts in as well.  Some characters are more combo/juggle happy than others.

For some reason I thought they nixed the online from the US version. The game seemed like pretty decent 2.5d fighter from the demo I played. Very quick and responsive with what seemed like a fun juggling system. Of course you would have to be one who is able to look past the super saccharine visuals.

Ugh, I hope not.  The way this game plays lends itself VERY WELL for online battles.  Lag really doesn't matter.

Ill probably give it a chance, thanks!

It's worth checking out.  What got me off of it was the PS2 duo of Basara X and KOF '98 UM.  But I really like Battle Fantasia and I wish it had been a more popular title.

EDIT: Haha, now I'm playing this game again thanks to this thread.

Damn, I might go pick up the PS3 version AGAIN used if it's not coming out in English.  Lots of eager fighting game enthusiasts are playing that imported it seems.  Plus it sells just as cheap for what I got when I sold it originally LOL.

Yeah, I just played a perfect lag-free match against the #23 ranked player.  Came close with Ashley but lost.  Need practice!

Haha, I beat him BAD.  Perfected the dude one round.  I forgot how much more satisfying it is playing a lag-free 2D fighter online is compared to something like Soul Calibur 4.

SC4's timing is too precise, only fighter ive played online that did ok with lag was DOA4 because nothing was that precise, some 2D fighters are that way too :)

This game's more simplistic style works very well online.  It was the first thing I thought when I first played the arcade version last year too.

Against Japanese players, I can have great matches in SC4 and VF5.  They feel like the people are in the same room as I am.  It's playing internationally that brings that way down...

Nah, I've seen every character represented well.  Shitty connections are another story though.

If they are getting beat by those characters doing the same cheesy stuff over and over again, then they aren't playing right, lag or no.  :P  On the 360 version, it was all "OH NO YODA TEH CHEAP SHIT SHIT SHIT" at launch for instance, and I never see Yoda players now.  The few that do try get destroyed.  Kilik can still be a bitch but he is easy to avoid once you learn how to deal with the bullshit spammers.

I think a lot of the morons already gave up on SC4 anyway.

Yeah I know.  Yoda was to show how quickly opinion can change.  Kilik and Siegfried are the two most notorious I've come across, but you learn to stop the distinguished mentally-challenged fellow shit fast.

Damn, I just double-double dipped...went to the game shop and the copy of Battle Fantasia PS3 I saw was too good to pass up on: 2700 yen NEW!  :o :o :o  Guess it really did bomb, although the weird thing is the USED copy they had was 4000 yen.  Bizarre, guess they wanted to clear out the new stock.  Next I'll probably dump the 360 version for the English one if it retains online play.  FOUR TIME'S A CHARM!   :lol

Naw, buying it back new for so cheap is cool since that's about what they gave me when I sold them the used one!   :lol  It's me being so much of an addict that I am considering buying it essentially for the FOURTH time in English that is scary.   :o    Probably won't though.

Wow, I wouldn't think japanese players wouldn't pull that kind of shit.

And wow, 5000?

I think Lyte's exaggerating a little.  It's true that he fought the #2 guy and he disconnected, but that only happened once, right?  I doubt it's a good representative of the PS3 users.

Heads up for J360 owners; Play-Asia is selling the Asian 360 version for 2700 yen now.

More than one time, and the shock was that it was from J-players in ranked matches.  That shit never happens.  There were also U.S. players doing it too; the lag gave it away.
