"It's developed by FROM SOFTWARE." From Software Producer Masanori Takeuchi is on the stage. He's talking about the game, which is "cinematic action" title. The trailer showed a ninja standing on a plane, falling into Tokyo and running down the side of a building. The game is set in Tokyo -- "famous Tokyo landmarks" like Shinjuku Station.

Quote
The action scenes and the cut scenes are seemless
Wow, Lost Planet designer Keiji Nakoka is working on this game.

Quote
Norihiko Hibino did the music   -- who's also done music for MGS 3 and Ryu Ga Gtoku 2. Production I.G. worked on the cutscene animation.

Quote
They're showing us helicopters, the ninja jumps off and cuts up demon monsters as he falls down to Tokyo below. He catches onto a buiding with a rope and inside the destroyed building, there are zombie monsters. The ninja cuts them up and then a LARGE OBJECT comes crashing into the building. The game is dated for 2009. The game will be playable at TGS.

Decent trailer, but it doesn't show much.

Playable at TGS is a surprise though.

The Xbox page for Ninja Blade goes on to confirm the following:

- The game is based on real locations throughout Tokyo including the Shinjuku Skyscrapers, Tokyo Tower, and Roppongi Hills.

- The game will use the full spec of the Xbox360 to recreate the famous landmarks to be as close to reality as possible.

- You can use your superhuman ninja skills to dive from skyscrapers, make giant leaps, etc.

- Using a variety of weapons you can take down armies of monsters one after another.

- The cinematic action nature of the game aims to create action sequences that are comparable to a Hollywood movie, while seamlessly branching between gameplay and cinematics.

I'm glad the game uses the full spec of the 360. The 360 is a beast so if it uses the full specs it will be awesome.

Just got back from this thing. My God, what blahness. I was expecting more than a single new game announcement.

Ninja Blade does look legitimately radcakes, though. I interviewed Norhiko Hibino several months ago and he was raving about the game, which didn't have a title yet. Now I see why he was so excited. Made Ninja Gaiden II look like a first-gen Xbox game.

Yeah, there was a brief CG trailer and then an in-game one. Very short, but awesome. The main character leapt out of a helicopter, fell hundreds of feet, smashed through plate glass windows into a skyscraper, then continued the battle inside. Totally seamless. The From guy said it wasn't a cutscene and was all playable. Graphics were hugely impressive and everything looked to be 60fps. Lots of destructable elements in the background. "From Software Ninja Action Game" just went from "huh, might be cool" to "GOD DAMN".

I dunno if MS will have a conference at TGS, but Ninja Blade will have playable kiosks.

otogi/chromehounds team

don't forget the Metal Wolf Chaos element - that could guarantee some utterly ridiculously over the top moments of FIRE.

chromehounds expertise used to handle expansive online persistant city battle ninja turf war. :hyper

never played metal wolf chaos; i was hyped for it but it got delayed constantly and then had some kind of covert release, by the time i found out it released it was already too rare to find.  :'(

i didn't think it was possible to have worse character/enemy designs than ninja gaiden 2, but from software found a way. not as if it matters if the gameplay is shit hot.

but i like practically everything from does -- king's field, armored core, otogi, mwc, especially chromehounds :hump

love is blind. there are lots of from games i haven't played, and even the from games i like tend to be weirdly sterile -- i remember hearing on gaf that from employees have to wear suits to work and are underpaid even by japanese game industry standards, which makes sense whether it's true or not. but a lot of their games just do it for me

You need to play Enchanted Arms.  You really do.

I know what you mean about the sterility, though.  I like From games a ton when they're good, but I'm just at the point that I know getting hyped for them is like flipping a coin.

I think that this will be a sleeper hit.  That is if this does actually deliver on the whole ninja-sandbox concept which is what it sounds like the game will be like with the hopping down skyscrapers into armies of monsters and whatnot.  That's an original idea and if it's done well, I'll be happy even though this game isn't all that original in the style department.  The graphics look decent too.

Mrs C swears that Enchanted Arms isn't that bad.
She's finished it twice i believe - once in english once in Japanese (the achievements are different i think!)

I think Groo quite enjoyed it too (?)

It was a solid C game. Nothing really offensive about it. Not Eternal Sonata bad.
