I think the point is more that when you're walking all over the competition, you don't need to do this.  Such as NES, PS1, PS2 and Wii.

Why did Sony take two years to do this? MS and Ninty were doing it from day one.

where there is fiercer competition, there's more of a reason to put that on the box.

And my only problem with the 'only on playstation' bit is that it has a new bar on the top of the box art instead of being on the side with everything else.

I can understand the two fonts: it's a Playstation 3 game and it's not leaving the Playstation "umbrella" (they could do a PSP version and it wouldn't necessarily "conflict," as if anyone cared)-- but the PSN font is stupid. The PSN bar should be a logo on the back.

Honestly, I really don't see what the big deal is. It's not like all of the fonts clash that badly.

Plus, there are three logos: PS3, PlayStation, and PlayStation Network.

Of course it won't matter at all when it comes to sales but it is very funny that such a huge company with excellent branding in the hi-fi market made such a simple mistake.

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about communication design (I'm an expert), but the number of fonts are a huge part of it. It's not like it is in other industries where you can become successful by branding individual, but different services, ideas, and software under one unbrella using different fonts. If you use different fonts in the video game industry, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the public, after seeing this package, is not going to want to purchase any PS3 games, nor will they purchase any of Sony's games for any system. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated everyone with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and rebrand everything Playstation using only one font or you can kiss your business goodbye.

It's a simple thing, but "Only on PlayStation" using the original PlayStation wordmark, without the number 3... does that mean you can play it on PS1?

considering it's going to be seen on a playstation 3 game case, nobody will be confused and think it means "only on playstation 1."  consequently, having that different font de-specifies it. 

it's just building the overal playstation brand saying "you'll see this game only one playstation systems" instead of trying to tell consumers what specific console it's for.  they can use the same branding on PSP games.  they can use the same branding for future hardware.

That headset was actually announced several months ago and comes with the SOCOM bundle.  Also, it is wireless and can be used both are a room mic or a headset.  This is all just making excuses.
