The 360 version just hit Japan today. Typical PS2 port-up; the game looks much better, but the pop-in and slowdown is all still there. Comes out in the States real soon, like in a week or two...who is getting it?

I started playing again and forgot how much I love this series. Didn't get too much into the PS2 version since I ultimately decided to wait for the 360 port. My starting team of Honda, Sun Shang Xiang, and Taigong Wang is UNSTOPPABLE, although Taigong Wang could take out everyone by himself. The mystical characters rule this game.

At the store, they had a demo reel for Shin Sangoku 5 Special on PS2 playing. I was pretty let down with the PS3 version, but I'm such a sucker that I will likely end up getting it. $:-\$ Maybe it will be much better, I dunno.

The game just hit stores today in Japan, but people playing via other means (yarrr) have had it for a few days now, so there's already lots of information and Youtube footage available. Good job, Koei...the PC version of the original Musou Orochi is still unreleased and the PSP version has yet to hit Europe...but bring on the sequel!

This second Orochi offering feels a bit like a recyclefest-- art, menu screens, and music have all been reused from the original game. There also seems to be less stages than before, too, since Koei dropped all of the gaiden stages.

-You get five main story modes (Wu, Wei, Shu, Sengoku, and now Orochi), each with eight stages each.

-A new dramatic story mode has also been added, putting premade teams into different situations. This looks to take the place of the missing gaiden levels.

-There's also a new versus mode and a survival mode, where teams of three characters face off.

Oh shit, if you don't like HORRIBlE SLOW SPEED, do not play this game split-screen multi. I am definitely DLing and retrying the PS2 version now; if it is not like that in 2P I am buying it back and selling off the 360 version. This shit is inexcusable. At least it IS playable since nothing requires any kind of perfect timing at least.

I remember the slowdown back when I played the import of WO2. Koei basically stuffed a bunch more officers and peons on the map and did nothing to optimize the engine, so slowdown hilarity often ensues. Oh well, still can't wait for the english version to hit this month.

That kind of BAD, BAD slowdown? I mean again it doesn't really affect the game play, but damn is it disappointing to see.

I dunno man 2P kinda sucked but 1P didn't bother me. It was playable regardless but it really boils down to whether slowdown bothers you or not.

I have the PS2 version DLed and I am going to try it and compare them tonight.

Finished the Shu campaign last night. Honda just rules 'em all...even Shin Orochi himself fell pretty damn quickly to the R button-powered up version. The final stage is so badly slowdown-filled that it feels like you are playing it underwater. I don't think it ever went back to a normal framerate at any point in the level, although thankfully the battle against Orochi is in a small area of the map with only a few enemies around and even less on the map at that point anyway.

I played around the PS2 version briefly, but without a save file (does anyone know where I can find one? The one at Gamefaqs didn't work) I can't do a proper comparison and I don't feel like playing to the last stage AGAIN. I do think it has less slowdown overall though. Even split-screen 2P seemed better on the PS2. But man does the 360 version look better. I really want to play the final stage on PS2 to see if it's as bad.

mine will be in soon so i'll do the same comparison. the only thing i could think you are doing wrong is rushing in on the stage and filling it with badguys. if i'm wrong and the game is that slow i'm not gonna order another musou game right off the bat until i hear a review on it. this shit irritates me.

It's just got issues, unfortunately. The PS2 version does too but I have now tested both at the same time, and I think the PS2 version has less slowdown overall. I still haven't seen the last stage of Shu (which was AWFUL and like being underwater) on PS2, but I found a Youtube video which looked to be much smoother. I think I am going to keep the 360 version though. Maybe they will release a patch. This shit isn't enough to make me sell the game, but it is annoying considering the other games aren't like this.

Playing more of this game on 360 is showing more and more sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooowdown with every stage. They better get the PSP port optimized or it's not gonna playable without 333mhz mode.

It's like they just took the Orochi engine and then added shitloads MORE enemies on screen, but didn't do anything to optimize it.

Musou Orochi Z is out in Japan. Should have it tomorrow. I hear it has more enemies on-screen than any previous installments, harder bosses, and you can finally use any characters you want in 2P mode. They also added new fourth outfits. Z is not a new game, but rather a combination of 1 and 2 together, with some new characters and stages as extras. The game is going to be coming out in the States sometime this year, as is the PSP Orochi 2.

It's still essentially the same thing again, and I am NUTSO. I have bought:

-Musou Orochi PS2, sold for the 360 version
-Musou Orochi 360, sold for the PSP version
-Musou Orochi PSP, sold for the PSP sequel
-Musou Orochi 2 PS2, sold for the 360 version
-Musou Orochi 2 360, sold for the PSP version
-Musou Orochi 2 PSP, I kept it!

And now Z on PS3.

All the shit is locked from the start. AGAIN. :'( You can't even play the Orochi 2 levels from the beginning! At least they left the two new characters playable from the start.

Yeah, those games are pretty nasty upscaled.

So far my thoughts are:

-It really does seem to have more enemies on screen at one time than before.
-Draw distances have been reduced to compensate
-There's framerate dips when shitloads of enemies are on-screen
-Installing doesn't seem to have reduced load times much, in fact I am wondering if doing this somehow is causing the framerate issues!
-The first boss of the first stage I played in Musou 1 did seem harder, but it has been like a year and a half since I played the original.
-The two new characters are pretty damn awesome, but are not playable in story mode. $:-\$

I am hoping this game can use any saves and someone will make a hacked save with everyone unlocked and Musou 2 open.
