He's kinda got a lot of notoriety from the 1up yours podcast, where he is a regular.  His tastes are more in line with Japanese developers--rpgs, action games, fighters, the core Nintendo titles such as Zelda and Mario.  He also adores the Metal Gear Solid series.  He also has a scary, encyclopedic knowledge of gaming, but I do agree that he is fun to listen to and works very well on podcasts due to his sheer enthusiasm for his favorite games.

on the gdc 2007 1up show, he bashed wow as boring nerd chat and then immediately praised home as revolutionary
he claimed that the new dual-shock had super-rumble and that in mgs4 you could feel where the bullets were coming from, 360 owned
he theorized that the mgs4 trailer had hidden meaning: kojima (old snake) was being recruited by the colonel (sony) to kill the evil liquid (microsoft)
during the tgs 2006 1up show, he pumped his fist in the air and shouted "sdf victory"

You should hear 1up's Legendary Thread podcast. They sound drugged.

Retronauts and GFW are still quite awesome. I listen to 1UY out of habit, and it's still pretty decent, but it would be so much better with Luke, Shawn and Jeff Green instead of everyone except Shane and Garnett who are still pretty amusing to listen to.

He's also incorrect a lot of the time.  Most of them are.  It's scary that I know this though-- I have this encyclopedic knowledge of games from working for almost a decade at a game shop and being online so much.

I skip right to the backlog for 1up FM. I can't stand Nick Suttner sitting around and talk about why every game is the best game ever every week. I had a friend in high school who had a top 5 movie list. The list was 200 movies long.

Kollar is okay but I imagine him snorting after every sentence.

I still think that Nick Suttner is much more well spoken than Garnett and arguably Shane. Quite frankly, I don't get why Suttner is singled out for using hyperbole. Shane and Garnett, much more so the latter, often talk about how whatever game they are currently playing does "insert bullshit here" the best. To me, its even more annoying because they are 2 grown men that talk like valley girls ("oh....my....GOD").

I'm not saying he's not well spoken. He's pretty articulate. I just don't think he's critical enough of what he's playing, and not critical in the bitchy sense but critical in the sense that Shawn Elliott uses the word. I just look at the different approaches they took to Braid. Not saying one is more valid than the other on an individual basis, but it's sort of a pattern with Nick.

He's often the high score on whatever game he's reviewing industry wide.
