Does it run without issue on Vista (that you know).  I recall all sorts of futzing around with Terror from the Deep.

Oh God please say yes. I've never managed to get it working, even with DosBox.

The dude that helped get this release out worked directly with the DosBox team for tweaks and testing. Apparently everything runs in Vista (32 or 64 bit) save for TFTD, and they are planning to patch the TFTD out there at a later point in time.

I'm going all in for everything. Been forever since I played TFTD.

I will buy this immediately. It's funny, growing up as a console-only guy, this is still my favorite game of all time.

Wooo! TVC, it's running beautifully on Vista as we speak. I'm going to be nerding out for the next few days hardcore to this.

Thanks for pointing it out Frag, you made my day.

if you are new to the game for the love of god, please read Kasey Chang's FAQ a bit before playing. Also, beeline plasa rifles and thank me later.

They're great if you like some micro-managing. But yeah, read the FAQ as Frag mentioned. I learned how to play years ago by watching a friend play it literally for hours. There's a ton of stuff to do, and it can get frustrating pretty easily, but it's also one of the most rewarding games I've ever played.

And while I love the first and second, anything after that was strictly (in my opinion) garbage.

I had a demo or shareware version or SOMETHING of this. I remember absolutely loving it despite being constantly obliterated.

Don't anyone throw stuff at me, but I've never played this. How does the GBA version which Namco released compare to it?

You mean this?  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebelstar:_Tactical_Command

Rebelstar isn't bad for a GBA game, but aside from perspective and it being a turn-based strat game, there's not a whole lot of overlap.  X-COM has base building and researching and hiring and firing people--there's a lot more to it than just the combat.

:lol It took me months, but I finally nailed a landed UFO. Everything was going smoothly, until...

Someone dies, bazooka dude panics, squad goes up in a puff of vaporizing friendly-rocket-fire.

God I missed this game.

Do what Frag said.  The game has an immense learning curve to it, and it can be sould crushing the first thousand or so playthroughs.

Also, no idea if it holds up in this regard, but the game was scary as fuck back in the day.  It had a pretty cool atmospheric soundtrack, and you were always like, one goofed grenade away from totally fucking up.  And the enemies were kinda creepy.

It's still got a pretty good atmosphere and I love the music, but it doesn't have quite the same impact.

Also can someone tell me (preferably Frag since he is the forum Grognard Lord) is X-Com Apocalypse is worth a shot?  I skipped that one.

Good, but not an all-time classic like UFO Defense is. Pro tip-resist the urge to play the combat turn-based, and learn to lean on the real time combat if possible.

Are you serious?  I think I played the demo years and years ago, but I recall the real-time combat feeling really, well, clunky.  This would be like a decade ago, though, so I may be misremembering things or I may have been distinguished mentally-challenged.

It's just that I've already played the first two games for a ludicrous amount of time.  I'd like something I haven't played.

I tried turn-based a few times, but more often than not I just ended up frustrated. Real-time combat worked out a lot better for me.
