What's funny is that I made it through the entire 90s only getting 3 PCs, but now I've probably bought like 12 machines in the past 4 years.  COMPUTER WORLD.

I remember my parents' pin number from hearing the bank rep repeat it when I was five years old. I also still remember the Game Genie code to place General Leo and Kefka in your party in Final Fantasy VI. I've forgot virtually all math from trig onwards, though

Just out of curiousity, how much of the specs can you remember?  Right down to the modem brand and model, or just the major specs (processor, videocard, RAM, hard drive)? 

Off the top of my head, the first PC I owned all to myself (not a family PC) was:

AMD K6-2 300 Mhz processor with 3DNow!
ATI All-In-Wonder videocard (with ATI's Rage chipset)
128MB RAM
WD 8gb hard drive
Soundblaster audiocard (obviously)
SCSI Pioneer 1x-2x CD-R (not RW) was connected to some generic SCSI CD-ROM drive (remember when you used to copy CD-to-CD? lolz)
3com 10/100 Mbps network card
Modem -- don't remember the brand, but I know it was an ISA-slot card, and ISA was dying at the time as a standard

For 1998, I guess it wasn't a bad machine.  I remember I really wanted an ATI TNT, but the dudes at the shop said it wasn't working with the other stuff in there.

For the further back stuff, I really only recall the major specs.  For like, my first home built PC, for example, I didn't care about the motherboard's features and specs as much as I cared that it was CHEAP.  Also, I only started paying attention to RAM speed fairly recently.  So it's really "I remember all the specs that I cared about at the time I purchased the machine."  I bet I remember enough part names to research up some of the old specs, but talk about a waste of time.

PC gaming is awesome, despite there's no longer amazing LucasArts/Sierra adventure games. Biggest fault of PC gaming is that Nintendo doesn't make PC games.

 :'(  I know.  I used to play Dark Forces ALL THE FREAKING TIME back in the day along with Rebellion and Tie Fighter.       We need another great space sim.

Biggest fault of PC gaming is pc hardware. I just don't have the nerve of going through all of that hassle every few years spending x2 the money of a decent console, and get a bunch of parts for DIY assembly to avoid paying x3 the price of a decent console if i buy the whole assembled thing at once...

The 8800's are cheap now, but still hold up well compared to the 9 series and GTX 200 series.
