If it was legalized and it was highly monitored like it is in Nevada i guess i'd go for it. At least if it was legalized everywhere with certain standards and stuff it would drive the cost of pussy down. And thats good for everyone.
There is no way to correctly monitor prostitution. Lots of shady practices are ignored in Nevada, and I don't think the majority of the country wants to imitate Nevada's stance.
When people think of prostitution they seem to forget a couple things, mainly children. First off, legalizing it sends a message to people, especially children. I don't want to live in a country in which prostitution is considered a professional, legal profession for women to make money.
Second off, the problem of child prostitution comes to mind. This is already a problem right now, but a legalization of prostitution would put these young girls into even more danger by decriminalizing the practice. In the Netherlands for instance, child prostitution sharply rose after prostitution was legalized, hitting high levels in the 90's and early 2000's.
Women are already considered an object by many people, but legalizing prostitution would indeed make them sex objects to be purchased and treated as such. I don't think most Americans like the idea of making pimps legal businessmen or sanctioning a practice that allows one to treat prostitutes any way they please without any legal consequences.
