Finally, a game that's worth the S-E tax. This'll be my GOTY unless Mirror's Edge or Prince of Persia (lol, ya right) turn out to be phenomenal.

This tax has got to fucking go. I only buy Square's games years after they release just to wait for the damn price to go down.

I am going to play DQ1-3 before I touch this. I just found out the translator/hacker for DQ1&2 SNES passed away last year, so I will do it in memoriam :usa

I played through 1 with my Dad. He called me his Squire. It was the last thing we actually did together.

I mean, he's still alive. We just don't have much in common.

dragon warrior games are better rpgs for people that like rpgs, while ff games are better for the mass market and people that like stories.  i can't see how the stupid new version of ff4 would be any better than the gba version, which i would recommend you get if you want ff4.

however, before you play dw4 i think you should spend some time playing dw3 to see if you will like it.  4 has more stuff in it, a couple chapter divisions, and a different way of playing out than other dw games, but the play style is essentially the same and will give you a taste of whether or not you have the patience for a classic dw game.

Will I like this too, or is it too archaic/downgraded?

I'm only in chapter 2 but it basically plays exactly the same, only the battles are much faster. it's awesome. I have the euro version and yeah, no party talk :(

No, DQ8 is missing a few features from early dq's like actually awesome dungeons, for instance. Not that I think it matters as DQ8 is still my fave.

That is such bullshit. In DQ7 and 8 party talk is one of the best features ever. Few, if any, jrpgs have party talk but DQ7 and up always have party talk. Forget where you are in the game and need a good refresher? PARTY TALK. Want more characterization? PARTY TALK. Taking out party talk to fit in more languages is a crock of shit.

And why the fuck won't the DW NES games run on my PSP? :( They freeze up on the first screen and then the PSP turns off 15 seconds later.

Apparently US=EU=AU

I liked party talk in 8 too. Here it's often not that clear where you need to go (first time playing this), so it would've been a neat feature.

Otherwise the game is kickass. The battles are lightning fast and the soundtrack is really good.

Finished chapter 2 today

man i'd totally be playing the original trilogy if some cockwad hadn't jacked my DQ3 :-\  demi, i'd like to hear your impressions on DQ2 when you finish it because while i loved the other DQ's, i fucking hated that one so much.  the lack of direction in that game just made it a huge pain in the ass.  i actually smashed up my original GBC when i got killed in the cave on the way to the last level after bumbling around in there for an hour.  shittiest RPG level i've ever played.

I dont think I've had trouble finding stuff, but then again usually one guy in a city gives you that faint clue on where to go next

I hate DQ2... never knew where to go to find the Cape, and also the Rhone dungeon with all the pitfalls and the strong-ass enemies was the most annoying dungeon I've ever faced... I think I died like 6 times in there, and then had to resort to make a map of the dungeon.
