What were you doing on 911 :(
« on: September 11, 2008, 01:28:20 PM »
My mom went to Chicago to visit my cousins a couple days before 911. My dad had plans to go to a medical conference on 9/10-9/11 as well, so I was gonna be left in charge of the house. I remember blowing off my mom's "you're the example, take care of your brothers" speech thinking woohoo, time to play StarCraft all night and watch TV all day.

On 9/11 I decided to take a break from school (it was my last year of homeschooling) so I went upstairs to watch some TV. That's how I saw the first plane had hit the tower. I kinda thought it was an accident or something at first but when I saw the second plane I felt sick. Then I remember the newscasters mentioning something about how the Sears building could be a possible target and I almost shit myself: my mom was planning on visiting the Sears building during her trip. I remember calling my dad, almost for no reason, just to see where he was. And later my mom called and said she was stuck on a train in Chicago

Work, class, as normal.  I was shaving and stuff in the morning while I listened to NPR about the stuff that was going down.  I remember when the second plane hit. Bob Edwards got the closest I've ever heard anyone on NPR get to breaking down on the air.

I was too young to know the significance of the event. Watching videos and doing more research on my own a while back, it was really an amazing/morbid thing that happened. I know it's a terrible thing that happened, but it still fascinates me. What bothers me is that a lot of people put it forth as a patriotic tragedy - I see it much more as a humane tragedy, and I think it should be seen as that first and foremost. In other words, it could happen any other place in the world, and it would be just as horrific.

I was starting my junior year of college in a rental house off campus. I was in my bed with my girlfriend sleeping when my mom called and said to turn on the TV because a plane had flown into the twin towers. We ended up watching the coverage on TV in the living room with our housemates for a little while before we all had to go to classes. I still don't get why the University didn't cancel classes.

I was eating strawberry Pop-Tarts. I wasn't going to school because I was sick from mono. My mom said from the other room that the WTC was on fire, so I ran in and saw the North Tower with a huge hole and smoke pouring out of it. After I heard that a second plane had hit, I went up to my room and watched the news all day long.

Just remember what the GOVERNMENT was doing on 9/11:
  • exploding miniature low-radiation hydrogen bombs in the Twin Towers basements to cause the tops to collapse
  • also doing the same to a smaller building that had almost no iconic value (just for kicks)
  • firing a cruise missile (holographically disguised as a jetliner) into the Pentagon
  • shooting down a plane filled with civilians which happened to be hijacked purely by coincidence on the same day.
  • blaming a group of terrorists who attacked the WTC before, so that we could invade an entirely different country on the basis of an alleged weapons program
  • vowing that they would never secretly plant evidence of this weapons program while in armed control of that country, despite being able to openly commit a series of large-scale terrorist attacks seen live by thousands of civilians

Feeding the dog and having a morning drink before heading to work. My roommate, also properly drunk before work, mentioned that something had just hit one of the towers. So we watched the news, and then another fucking plane goes flying into a tower. Despite being very cynical people, we were both sort of dumbfounded by the whole affair and surprised by how relatively big of an attack it was, but we both agreed that this would not end well for the Middle East. Of course, no one wanted to be downtown Chicago at the moment, so it took a while to get to work.

Sidebar, but I'm curious. Is it commonly know that the Russians issued a warning to the US regarding imminent attacks by Muslim extremists?

duckman - i always thought you were from Sweden for some reason.

I woke up that morning sick to my stomach, after a long argument last night with my just-recent ex. Thought nothing of it, went to take a shower... then I got back and saw my roommate huddled around my 13" tv just right after the first plane hit. It was pretty surreal since I live pretty close to NYC but was in college in Buffalo at the time.

911 is a joke in yo town

a friend of mine actually made up a shirt with this on it and wore it with a big-ass clock around his neck on the first anniversary.  much to his dissapointment, more people found it funny instead of offensive.

It looked like a movie, it was pretty surreal.

It was the first class of the day.  I still attended classes that day but we didn't do anything other than watch the TV.  I thought it was out of the blue, myself.  From USS Cole to 9/11?  The worst part was that we had fucking football practice on 9/11  ::).  The reason was that we were going up against a team that was much better than ourselves so every day is an advantage.  Still got our asses kicked but people were pretty pissed about that.

The interesting thing about it is that we heard planes flying but we couldn't see them.  The AFB nearby us was supposedly visited by Bush that day.  So it could have been him or some senior cabinet members.

Most of the people I knew were pretty taken aback by it.  Nobody thought anyone would go to that extent.  So the feeling was pretty much one of shock.

I was in the living room eating breakfast with my gf and roommate at the time.  We were actually watching CNN and they cut in saying that a plane had hit the WTC North Tower.  At first we all thought it was an accident, but after I got to work my gf and then my mom called in rapid succession telling me that a second plane had hit, and then later I heard that a plane had hit the Pentagon.  It was a bitch getting people to come into work that day.

Lots of other people expressed incredulity at the time it happened, but I for one was not surprised we were attacked, nor at the spectacular fashion it happened in.  I'd always figured our shitty ME foreign policy would bite us in the ass someday.

My friends and I had been partying the night before. I woke up hungover and in bed with a strange woman to the telephone ringing. My sister had called to tell me about the first plane hitting, she figured I wouldn't see it or hear about it because it was my day off.

My friends all got up and went to the TV, but we stayed in bed listening to the radio until the second plane hit. We must have watched CNN all day and night after that.

I was in 6th grade, in my American History class or something similar.  We got a PA announcement that the Trade Centers had been attacked and that we should turn on our televisions.  My teacher did so, and we watched as the second plane crashed.  Being that I lived in northern Jersey at the time, some people actually knew people who worked at the towers.

The rest of the day was changed, schedule wise.  We could either leave school if our parents wished us too, or stay in a study hall or cafeteria.  As soon as I got home, I hugged my mom and sat down to watch CNN.  We must've had CNN on the entire week after.

I was home and my father called me to the television. We had visited the towers the year before, but I forgot how large they were. So when I saw the hole created by the first plane on television, I assumed that a small plane had accidentally crashed into one of the towers. That is until minutes later when I watched as the second tower was struck.

My mom wakes me up and was like "WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!" to which I start thinking "did the russians invade or something?".  So I go down to watch the TV and I was like oh, you scared the crap out of me, they ran planes into a building.
