Is there like a dynasty warriors demo somewhere I can try?
« on: September 12, 2008, 01:11:59 AM »
I've never played any DW and I want to try one. I tried Gundam but I didn't really get it. I just hit square a lot. Which I guess is moderately entertaining, but, you know.

I want to try DQ6 maybe. Is there a PS3 demo? I checked...I didn't see one on 360.

If you played Gundam you played DW, its not like either game is radically different

Oh sorry, I had forgotten about those. It is hard to look past the 6.0s the series gets

6.0 is the no-effort "we seriously don't know what to do with these games - just give them to the intern to review" score. it's a lot like the 6.0 that most 2D shooters released in the US tended to get. they do the same thing with romance of the three kingdoms.

Yes.

Go get a boring Chinese history book.
Get some hentai porn.
Put them next to each other.
Grab an Xbox 360 controller.
Start smashing the "A" and "X" buttons, while reading the history book aloud and beating off to the porno.

You played it!

Do you like beat-em-ups?  Do you like leveling characters, finding weapons and smashing hordes of enemies?  Then you'll like these games.

I would avoid DW6; it's kind of a step backwards.  Koei is even down-porting the game to PS2 and making improvements to that version anyway.

My problem with these games in the past was how little challenge the stages seemed to lack with all the brain-dead enemies.  If you want a better challenge, try Warriors Orochi.  The sequel is hitting the States soon too.  It changes up the formula a bit by letting you pick three-man teams that you can swap between at any time, but you can die easier.  It's more challenging and more fun.

I think there is on PC.  Warriors Orochi is Koei's "King Of Fighters" in that it takes the characters from Dynasty Warriors AND Samurai Warriors, puts them together, adds new enemies and story, and has the team play thing going on.

Find a cheap copy of DW4 Empires.  On the link is a copy for $8.99, which is a good price.  Even after shipping costs, you really don't lose here.

If it helps I was in your position having never played a DW game.  I wanted next gen though because I thought the engine would be better, no wall of fog, more happening on screen etc...  I bought DW6 and was surprised how much I enjoyed it.  The game has a great immersion factor and I enjoyed the character stories.  I enjoy repetitve hack and slash and I found the game to be perfectly challenging.

I can see where someone who has played A DW game before 6 might be somewhat dissatisified with DW6 but if your're new to the series like I was DW6 provides enough graphical and environmental polish to please.

The reason DW6 kinda sucks is mainly because of how they changed up most of the characters.  They made too many characters play the same and/or use the same weapons.  Screw graphics in these games; if you're going to try DW6, better to wait for the PS2 port.

lol action, dont u mean juggles.

I guess if you let the CPU beat you up, sure.  It was never much of an issue for me.  Played one campaign 'till the end with Muckson and had a blast!

I give this post a 6/10.
My first Musou was SHIN Sangoku Musou. i.e. Dynasty Warriors 2.
You've played one, you've played them all.

I think that can be said for more than just Musou games though.  These games aren't deserving of 6 scores (well maybe DW6), they are made better than that.   They get incremental changes made to them.

HEY, so do all the sports games that come out every year!  How come they don't get trashed?   :-\

Jesus MAF, remember that "Musou Orochi 2, BITCH" thread that you have posted in?  It's all about the 360 version and its slowdown.   :'(

The PS2 version has it too, but I think the PS2 version has LESS of it overall.  I am waiting to see if they patch the 360 version when it comes out, but I am likely going to just sell it when I finish it and get the PSP version as the "keeper."

Oh I agree. They're always fun, somehow. But I find it hard to become so attached whereby I know the exact differences from game to game. 6/10 is harsh, but I can understand it from a non-Japan perspective, just like Japanese reviewers probably dread the yearly updates to FIFA, NHL, NFL, etc.

Yeah, I am just saying that if a U.S. mag scores it 6/10 because it's the "same old thing," then they need to stop being hypocrites and say the same thing about every other EA/Activision/Ubisoft game that does the same thing.

It's only been in the last two years that I have purchased most (still not all) of the Musou games.  I think they make them too frequently and they need to slow it down a bit.  I like Orochi because it has at least got an original story.  It's boring seeing the same shit remade OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER again in their other games.  Gundam Musou was cool but I am not a Gundam fan.  I'd love to see them do that with another license.

Yeah, see, I've never played any DW (other than Gundam, I'm not a big gundam fan so I didn't really get it) so if I started with 6 I wouldn't care that all the players were nerfed.

I need no wall of fog or super shitty graphics.

Empires sounds not horrible, but I'd like to try DW6 first to see if I like the core gameplay. Empires kind of sounds like a sim tacked on. lol kessen?

No, it's good, but the 360 version was released later than the PS2 version, so they put it out for a budget-ish price. It's more common than the PS2 version, too, I think.

what's the difference between SW2 and DW? I'm leaning towards 5 Empires since that's supposedly good.

SW has more chaotic battlefields with optional sub-missions that come and go.  These can lead to branches in a character's story. The music is more techno-ish rather than DW's riff-heavy rock. You can do more with horses in SW, like making them jump and stomping filthy dumbs. SW2 has a skill tree for each character that allows you a bit of freedom, while DW characters' stats grow only one way aside from stat pickups. DW has a bunch of equippable items instead. SW2 has no unlockable costumes.  :'(  SW has a create-a-character mode (as do the DW Empires).

I prefer DW overall, 'cause SW is a little too chaotic for me, and I like the music and setting better.

BTW, in Orochi 2 most of the characters have alternate outfits.  If they are not new, they are from DW4 or SW1.   :)

I tried the PSP Dynasty Warriors Volume 2. It was so fun  :lol

--I didn't really like the music
--I wasn't crazy about the strategy screen. I'd like something a little more in depth.
--I'd really like it if the graphics weren't as terrible. I mean it really looked bad and there weren't even that many guys on screen.

Samurai Warriors 2 Empires sounds like I wanttttt it.

I didn't actually know what anything said on screen other than my primary goal was to KICK ASS!!! Wasn't totally sure what the point in capturing supply depots was, etc.

The PSP games are not going to have the best graphics, obviously.  :)  Koei did improve things starting with Samurai Warriors State Of War (full screen!), but the Warriors Orochi port is the best; it's the same as the console versions in terms of content...
