Amsterdam - where you don't speak dutch
« on: September 13, 2008, 03:50:05 PM »
Just went on a 4 day trip to Amsterdam and I was surprised at how much english is spoken there. People always addressed me in english, even Dutchmen. I live in belgium and I'm used to this somewhat in a big city but not to this degree. Can't recollect if it's like this in Brussels or Antwerp or Brugge. The contrast was probably bigger because in Japan(Kyoto) it's the exact opposite.

Yeah, those are the times I'm proud of my country, we make an effort to speak the other person's language.

I agree with Lewis Black on the issue:

"I didn't fly so far only to hear you speak english, you fucks. Speak gibberish."
