There are some great songs on Rush of Blood. The new one is horrible.

I saw them live before their weak third album came out, they were really good live. I was impressed and gained a lot of respect for them. It was especially cool seeing Chris on piano. Their first two albums (especially the second) are really good, and their latest album is solid too (although I only listened to it a couple of times so far.)

If you have the chance to see them live and like them at all, I'd recommend seeing the show.

If Brian Eno could make U2 sound good, it was a no-brainer with Coldplay. Duder is a genius.

I don't get the hate at all. Even from the "mediocre and generic" angle, they're less mediocre and generic than a lot of other popular groups that don't get ragged on as much. I guess though you could spin that as them being so mediocre, they're even mediocre in their mediocrity.

Well, their first 3 albums do sound really similar, so I think they might be one of those bands where the first record you hear by them is likely to be your favorite.

Clocks is an awesome song.
This, and the singer being married to and having a baby with Gwyneth Paltrow gives two points on the awesomeness scala, which is not too bad these days.

I wouldn't go out and buy any of their CDs, but they're more listenable than the majority of what passes for pop nowadays...
