Jbore: Hit by the Red Ring!

So, I've now joined the Red Ring club.  My elite system got hit with it after a few freezes while playing Lost Odyssey.  It'll turn on, but it freezes after a few minutes no matter what I'm doing.

What should I do?  I sent a message to MS Japan (in English) telling them what happened, I'd like to do this the easiest way possible, and in English preferably.

play your ps3 or wii while its in repair.

Get it fixed like anyone else.
What's the issue here?

I was sort of hoping that someone could give me insight about whether or not there is an easy way to reach MS Japan support in English, I'd rather not have to deal with all of this in Japanese.

Just phone them, and tell them you've got the RRoD. It's still under warranty by default. If you don't have the original box, they will have a parcel delivery service come out with a special box for transport at a predetermined time of your choosing. They'll tell you the repair might take 10 days, then ship the same unit, repaired, back to you nearly immediately. I kid you not, I was terrified about letting my US 360 go away in Japan, but the service from MS was on par or better than the usual, wonderful service standards of Japan.

In my case, I hadn't RRoD'd, and had to pay a set fee, but my expectation is that the same options would
apply in your warrantied case.

I called them and got some Japanese person who said that there was no English support for the phone.  My Japanese wasn't good enough to handle technical troubleshooting, so the conversation went nowhere fast and I gave up.  Eventually they responded to my email in English and made me do some tedious checks ("make sure unit is properly plugged in") before they scheduled a repair.  I had the original box and stuff, so I just sent it COD to their repair center, told me it'll take 2-3 weeks but most people say that it's much shorter.  I sent it out on Thursday, so I guess I'll soon see.

Glad to hear you got it RMA'd. I guess I was speaking Japanese with them when I checked my machine in. Microsoft Japan Repair Center were very helpful; the world never ceases to surprise me.

Box came back today, so it took around a week, not bad.  Just in time to play some Raiden 4!
