I think Bank of America is in relatively good shape still.

These just aren't banks going belly up for the hell of it. All of these money grubbers were involved in subprime lending and the mortgage crisis some way or another.

why would one move banks? they aren't gonna block access to funds until they close the doors -- which they won't any time soon. your funds are also federally insured through the fdic. you'll wind up with another logo on your debit card, but moving yer money to a different bank is an unnecessary headache at this time.

But it's all FDIC insured and you should be able to get that money pretty easily, from what I know of the system.

Prole, I had already created a new account on the East Coast because there are simply no WaMu branches here. I had been using the account to pay some debts and automated bills from. Since it's not easily accessible, it's been nice to stow money there because I can't easily access it.

I even have it as an External Account attached my to WaMu checking.

I'm glad for this thread, we have our account at Wachovia but we're looking for a new bank when we move to Brooklyn because there aren't any in Brooklyn. Now I know not to go WaMu. I think there's some Commerce banks there. Don't know much about them though.

Their interest rates are like. 2% or less. But if you EVER have ANY problem, you will literally be on the phone with a REAL, HELPFUL person in under 30 seconds. The people at the bank are also nice, they have free lolipops and taffy and piggy banks and they all have baffrooms. Plus, they don't nickle and dime you on shit.

Downside is that there aren't a ton of them near me, but there's one in Union Square and one in brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill (TRADER JOES NEXT FRIDAY THANK FUCK) for sure. I'm certain there are others, but I only know those.

I used to bank through BECU, but someone broke into my account and they refused to refund me the money.

We now use Wells Fargo.
