Replaying Halo 1
« on: September 18, 2008, 12:36:06 PM »
So after completing Halo 3 on legendary with a couple of guys I went back for more and popped the original in again. It still holds up really well. I played from start til the Library in one sitting, it's still addictive as ever. This is also a secret appreciation thread for this little bundle of joy

Is this the best pistol in shooters or what? Zoom, big clip, powerful, accurate, takes a Hunter out with one shot... It's the weapon I use the most

But! Playing this also made me realize how much the level design has improved in 3 and what an overall better game it is. I could replay the Tsavo Highway-Covenant mission gauntlet again and again. The Covenant, best mission of the trilogy by far. It's like they threw everything that makes Halo awesome into one epic package.

The pistol was great.  I would go as far as to say that if the pistol was a bit more balanced for multiplayer, Halo 1 would have had one of the most balanced weapon selections in an FPS game.  The sequels got bloated with their weapon sets despite the improvements to the core gameplay (for 3 at least).

This is also a random question, but did they ever fix the melee problem with Halo 3 online?

Good.  I do play online every once in a while and the last time I did I couldn't really notice it, so I didn't know for sure.  That shit pissed me off big time when I first got the game and kept dying despite hitting the guy first; I remember even switching to green thumb to be even faster.

Anyone want to boost Halo 3 online cheevs OR do some metagame runs?  I need those but I dont think they are capable with just one person.

Metagame achievements are easier with one person.  But you need to get the skulls.  Activating them adds multipliers.  Certain skulls are better for certain levels.

I replayed Halo 1 over the Labor Day weekend, and even played through The Two Betrayals level again this past weekend.

halo <3

It's not easy to do the metagame stuff with more than one person because of the decreased point value, yeah. I find it too challenging to get a lot of the metagame high score stuff though.

metagame achievements are indeed best done with one person, got them on normal + skulls. There are 3 to 4 skulls you can turn on that don't affect the difficulty all that much, but I forget which ones.

oh I remember one: certainly activate 'all enemies throw more grenades' in the flood levels since they don't throw nades anyway

I thought this was a Borys thread until I saw that you'd played Halo 3.

Were you successful when you tried to beat R6V on realistic?  That's pretty badass as well.

Just find the right combination of skulls on normal and it's fairly easy. Beating on heroic and legendary is harder.

metagame is easy alone, just do it on Normal with 4 skulls (low ammo, extra enemy health, no radar, enemies throw extra grenades). I've gotten the achievements on all the ones I've tried with thousands of points to spare. I'll do my remaining ones with you if you want though.
