New Metal Gear Solid Trademark
« on: September 19, 2008, 10:27:13 AM »

Quote
Solid Snake’s story is finished, but that doesn’t mean Konami is going to seal the Metal Gear Solid franchise in an early grave. The first sign of a new Metal Gear Solid game comes from the Japanese Trademark database where Konami registered Metal Gear Existence with the boring image on the right. It’s made to be used with video games so it’s likely, very likely, the name of a future Metal Gear Solid game. Going by the title alone it sounds like we’re going to visit the existence - or origins of the Metal Gear Solid franchise. So, will this be another game starring Big Boss? Let the wild pre-Tokyo Game Show speculation begin!

Sounds like a 360 port of some kind. Or maybe the title for the Metal Gear 1&2 remake.

No one can deny that the first thing you think of is a 360 port of the game.

First thing I thought of is that its the Intergral/Substance/Subsistence version of MGS4, not a 360 port.

Same.

Though honestly at this point I'd wish they'd release a game set after Portable Ops and before MG1. MPO was billed as the "missing link" between the Big Boss of MGS3 and the Big Boss of MG1, but it just showed how FOX-HOUND got its start and how Big Boss got enough resources to create Outer Heaven.

MGS4 did more to explain that gap in time, and it felt totally phoned-in and undeveloped. But a game set during a period when Big Boss was being used as an international propaganda tool by the Patriots could show their motivations and develop them into their MGS1/2/4 selves. Not just MGS4's half-baked, "oh well they both loved the boss but then some of them turned evil and big boss was angry."

That is what I think (hope) it will be, but just hearing Existence make me think 360 port because of the X.  Can't help it.

They should pull a Zero Mission and have it contain MG1/MG2 and a new section playing as Big Boss remake in the MGS4 engine.

Yeah, they should just get it over with and remake MG1/2. Despite all the timelines and theories that MGS fanboys (like me) create, Kojima obviously doesn't care about the old games because they don't fit with the Solid games thematically. Now that he and his "anti-remake" stance aren't in the lead, just remake them so that they correspond with the "modern" story and characters.

they've already used the 'existence' subtitle for the movie disc that comes with mgs3 subsistence. reusing it for an mgs4 rerelease would be careless and unkojimalike

New plot line: Big Boss lived after MG1 because of nanos.

Considering how under expectations it sold, i'm surprised we haven't heard of a port.
