I dunno how people find this as one of the best. The levels are awful, there's no slide, and you can't even change weapons in-game (can you? i didnt see any way). Easily one of the lower ranking Mega Mans. It's poop. Fuck off with this shit and make a new Legends.

And how do you get those items that are stuck in the walls that are impossible to reach regularly? I figured Black Hole would do something... nope

I think you might need the bird to bring it to you or something, that or the Protoman DLC.

And Legends 3 will probably be on the Wii.  I am not getting my hopes up.

I think what went wrong is that they included a woman

The woman is the easiest robot master to beat, too  :P

Uh NO, Galaxy Man is the easiest. Followed by Concrete Man, then Tornado Man. Splash Woman gave me the worst time.

lol, Demi has difficulties with women.

I know there is one item that 'gives you an item', I thought it was the bird, but maybe it was something else.

You mean the throwback 8-bit style?

Yes. This is a prime example of a company completely misinterpreting what people wanted. When people wanted a classic Megaman, I'm sure no one ever asked to have EVERYTHING get regressed to NES era filth. 16 bit graphics should be the MINIMUM level developers should aim for when making these types of games. I mean, fuck even MM6 looks better than this.

There's this part where you're in a Tractor Beam of sorts. Easy enough, just shoot to direct yourself left or right. Avoid the spike blocks.

The irony of MM9's generally warm reception within the gaming community is difficult to miss. Here is a game artfully crafted to resemble an 8-bit platformer. Not just any 8-bit platformer, either; after all, that rather generic term spans a tremendous gamut ranging from Pitfall! to Dracula X: Rondo of Blood.

Rondo of Blood was an 8-bit game now?  You're a fucking distinguished mentally-challenged fellow, Parish.  I hope he gets a brain tumor and quickly goes insane and embarrasses himself in front of all those he has loved.  What a re-re.  PC Engine had a 16-bit graphic processing, which is all that really mattered at the time.

Again, Rondo is a Super CD2 game.  Are we going to count what is essentially a Turbo Duo as an 8-bit console now?  It's got a modified 8-bit CPU but 16-bit graphics processors...

It isn't like the Retronauts guys are dead-on accurate about everything.  Almost every time I listen to a podcast, the nerd in me always speaks out loud whenever they are wrong.   :lol

I'm kinda mixed on the game so far. On one hand I can see and feel some of the visual improvements over the NES titles. On the other, while I like how the game's tone is more Mega Man 1 and 2, the sprite and tile work really is bland looking even compared to the first two games. The music is catchy though, I'm glad that they didn't fuck that part up.

Also I'm all for hard difficulties and such but some of the challenges in the game rely on stretching out a mechanic for far too long (Tornado Man) or one hit deaths. It's more tedious than challenging. Some of it just borderlines a typiclal Mega Man hack without being nearly as difficult. There's also some enemy placements in the game that I can't seem to get by without getting hit, like one involving a ladder and one of those spider hoppers. Also what's with Machine Gun Sniper Joe not having any sound effects?

Despite my problems with it I am enjoying the game a lot so far and there are some pretty creative twists here and there, but the level design does feel a bit chintzy than what it should be for a newly released 8 bit game.

As for my series rankings:
1=2=3=7nes > 5 > 6 = 4

Woot, got it.

Galaxy and Magma Man down. The post-damage invincibility is really handy for walking across lava in Magma Man's stage. And that fire dragon mid-boss I was fearing takes like three black hole bombs, he's fucking easy.

Also, two fully charged shots of the Magma Bazooka or whatever is enough to kill the boulder mid-boss on Jewel Man's stage.

This game has put a smile on my face.  It's definitely harder than the likes of Mega Man 2, but it's nice to have a game where the challenge comes from the level design and not from some stupid camera bullshit or cheap A.I. crap.  It's totally old-school, and it's awesome.  I still would have preferred something that looked more like a fusion of 8-bit with modern effects though, like Pac-Man CE.

I agree about the graphical approach.  When the game was first rumored to be 8bit I was hoping for a stylized approach.  Then again, the file size would be much larger.  This is the only wiiware game I own because its not like Im giving up a ton of space to play it.

All I gotta do now is beat Tornado Man and then the Wily stages... still can't grasp the timing on those goddamn spinning platforms.

Also, I made it past the elephants in Concrete Man's stage and the plant in Hornet Man's stage by the skin of my teeth... any tricks for these? I use the Splash Woman Trident weapon since it seems to move faster and do more damage than the standard megabuster.

The plant miniboss is easy, just constantly move in a circle.  If the flower appears opposite from where you are, just stand and blast it with as many shots as possible, if not then just keep moving and avoid the shots.

Tornado man's platforms just require timing, I didn't find them hard at all.  You can also just constantly jump on them as long as there aren't any spikes above you.

Okay, fuck Wily 2. I can't pinpoint exactly why, but I hate it. Wily 1 was not that hard, especially once you know how to do the lava streams (especially that you can keep freezing the streams indefinitely), but there's something about Wily 2 that's frustrating.

Is it because it's making you actually use your items? I'm on Wily 2 at the moment as well and kinda like that they're pushing me to use my arsenal. This was something that the later entries was lacking a bit. At this moment though my opinion is still the same on the game. It's definitely been a lot of fun for me as a long time Mega Man fan but it does fall short of the first three games in terms of overall design, and the pixel art is easily the worse in the series. Love the soundtrack though. I actually ended up liking a majority of the stage music.

No, it's because it's easy to use up the energy for those mandatory items and weapons and you'll spend ten minutes getting it all back.

Then hit some spikes in that fucking underwater part.

It's kinda like the first two games to where they kinda force you to get good enough to use your weapons wisely. Plus it's the last bunch of stages, they should be a bit demanding.

That was one thing I was worried about when I heard that inticreates was working on this. They have had such a reliance on spikes that that becomes their primary source of making a game difficult. That's not creative design. Yes the old games had spikes but it wasn't to the extent that this game has them (in which they're prevalent in almost every stage).

And the plant sub boss is actually kinda easy.
