I hate how in Dragon Quest, when you cast the revive spell, whether it works or not is entirely RANDOM. It is so STUPID. If I need someone to be revived, DO IT ASAP. On top of this, the revive spell costs 20 fucking mp, so if you keep failing, in the middle of battle, you've essentially WASTED your mp for no reason, and there's no damn mp refill items to make up for it.

Also, I'm pretty sure the revive spell is %100 @ %100 health.  The vivify spell "zing" is %50 for each. 

Which leads me to another thing I hate:  The renaming of virtually everything in the Dragon Quest games.  Half the towns I don't even know since they fucked with the names.  And "zing"?  WTF. 

I didn't have any mp refill items fighting the last boss!

I didn't have revive at the time. Only Zing. Which always doesn't work.

Vampire Weekend

vampire weekend is actually really good.  interesting melodies, a good synthesis of "world" music with pop and fairly unique lyrics

if they hadn't been hyped to hell and back by pitchfork and other site and mags of that ilk previous to the release of their first single (much less album), i think the landscape of their audience would be a bit different.

i want to see what they do with their next two albums before I pass any sort of judgment.

this saturday i was at some free party in brooklyn sponsored by hennesy (i think) where in this horrific female DJ was playing essentially all the nyc hip hop hits from when i was in high school.

it was just embarrassing to listen to her.

Seriously, wtf. I just got out of my african american studies class, where our teacher decided to host a guest speaker: a Nation of Islam member who's also apart of the New Black Panther Party. Very well dressed, slick speaker. He was supposed to talk about reparations but wound up deviating to all types of issues, including saying white people are devils. Half the class is white and at that point most seemed to be turned off, but lo and behold a few of them started trying to defend this mindset.
