The This American Life on 419 scammers is fucking hilarious

It was last week's episode, #363 Enforcers.  Snag a copy.  I am still in the first segment, but it's about anti-419 people baiting a 419 scammer to do ridiculous things--ie, turning the scam around onto the scammer.

They get the scammer to go to Chad, hundreds of miles from home, dress in a white robe with a pink sash, and hold up a sign that says something vulgar about Mohammed  (the scammer thinks a church is going to give him 200k so he can start a church back home).

It gets more ridiculous from there.  I almost feel bad for the scammer.

My favorite one was where the guy claimed he was dying yet was conned into sculpting a bust of the 419 guys head out of wood for an art gallery and then told the nigerian that it was damaged when he got it and refused payment. the he conned the nigerian into recording a video segment with a script. He even had the video on youtube. When all was said and done, I'm sure the nigerian was out close to $2000 and begging for money. Pretty amazing stuff from a almost dead millionaire.

subscribe to it on Itunes (they have it listed as a podcast), get a new one each week. 


Can't wait to listen to this one...That show has made many a long drive go by fast and usually provides any interesting story to tell when you get there.

It would be awesome if Ira Glass quit in order to become a phone sex operator.
