My roommate has been sick for three days, which is why I've been staying in the library as much as possible. He sneezes everywhere, even in the fucking kitchen. I told him straight up, "dude I know you're sick but don't cough in the fucking sink."

The fact that he probably spends all his time in his room is what is giving him that smell.  That stink probably just recirculates.  Considering how oils build up everywhere (bed sheets, unwashed clothes, etc.) and I always feel like I need another shower at the end of the day, that is several hours of stench just permeating the clothes and air.

I come in and he says he's stuck, and has no clue what to do. he says a rat gave him the bell and he is just wandering around and doesn't know what to do with it. I asked him if he examined the door and he says "no, that makes no sense. how does a bell open a door". I don't understand the problem since it's so easy to solve. Almost everything he does, almost everything he likes, almost every thing he says is in bad taste. It's driving me insane, I need to get a single next year. After 1 year in a dorm room I learned that sleeping/living in the same room as someone else if awful.  I'm a greedy kid who has always had my own room, but so what? Having your own room is great.

I still deal with snoring problems from another room, but at least being able to have my own room which I can ocd over and keep clean makes me happy.

And actually having a roommate is pretty enjoyable if only because you almost always have access to someone else willing to do things.  Perfect situation would be: me in one big room - door - living area/kitchen/entrance - door - his/her room.  I also need my own bathroom.  Dealing with people who can't pee straight is something I never want to deal with again.  I mean, is it really so hard to pee in the damn toilet? I can fill up a snapple bottle from 5 feet away if I wanted to, yet these guys can't even pee into this huge pool meant for getting peed in? Ridiculous.  Also pubic hair in the shower.  Never again.

Excellent post. Alot of people will fall into old (and sometimes disgusting) habits after they are away from home for a bit. If you're clear right off the bat, they are usually likely to at the very leat try to be accomodating. It may not work 100%, but it's better than waiting until you explode.

It helps when your shirt smells a little sweaty and things like that.  Up against anything stronger and it just mixes in with the bad smell.  The febreeze kinda lingers too, whereas something like Oust does the job, then goes away after about 15 minutes.   If it doesn't work, then it's time to get a couple people together and have a sit down talk with the guy.  Make sure there's a girl in the group too, so he gets humiliated enough to start taking better care of himself.
