This game is only really hard when you try to play it with the motion controls.  Like with every wipeout game, I usually do terrible for the first 10 or 20 minutes, then I remember that I have been playing it like other racing games and snap into the wipeout style of play and do fine.  The motion controls are a whole different thing -- if you can use them, I salute you.

I can't even play with analog controls, I can't even imagine how terrible I'd be with motion control.

I play with the d-pad, so there is always that option.  The game lets you go really in depth with customizing controls.  Motion controls can be set to full steering or just for tilting, you can change what button does what, you can adjust the sensitivity of the buttons for tilting or accelerate.  I think right away you would want to change the tilting from the R2/L2 buttons to the R1/L1 buttons, then make it so that accelerate to 100% takes less push than it did before  When I first played I kept wondering why I was going so slow, then I noticed that I was only going about 80% of max speed since I wasn't pressing hard enough.

I'm not sure how I used to play this, but for some reason I don't remember ever using shoulder buttons for anything other than air brake. Acceleration has always been 100%; control is what you have air brakes for.

Still, would love to see a real built from the ground up Wi4eout.

I would be fine with one that played exactly like Wip3out, and featured only classic maps (and not flashy neon remakes, either). I liked Pure quite a bit, but it still never felt like it came up to the level of Wip3out. And speaking of which, I wouldn't mind seeing the speed courses from Wip3out SE make a return.

It will be interesting to see how age and recent events has affected my ability to master Wipeout.

Nope, no PSP. I was thinking of borrowing a PSP just for that game, though. Wip3out is still the high water mark for me, which I know clashes with the common opinion that Wipeout 2097 is where it's at. Everything just meshed with Wip3out; gameplay, presentation, visuals, it's just a thing of beauty all around. Even moreso with Wip3out SE.

It's awesome, I found a memory stick over here, so I tried it out on my PS3... then went to browse what was on the stick in the XMB, saw I had a bunch of MP3s already on there, probably from when I was djing last... transferred them over to my PS3 and built a playlist.

And the songs on there fit Wipeout PERFECTLY, all this quality prog. In fact one of the songs, Guy Gerber and Shlomi Aber-Sea Of Sand, was actually in Wipeout Pulse. Now to get some Sasha on my playlist.

This game is so fucking addicting. I really liked Pure and Pulse, but the fact I don't have to play this on PSP and I can play on my plasma makes this 1000000x better. PS3 GOTY, even better than MGS4.

Right now I'm sitting on the third batch of events and I can't get any further. I have two events left, a time trial in Metropia, and a single race in Sebenco Climb. I can't medal in either.

A disc-based Wipeout sequel for the PS3 was announced at the same time as Wipeout HD. Nothing has been said about since that initial announcement.

I'm not a hardcore Wipeout player so I'm not speaking for them, but honestly, Wipeout HD is enough for me.

They announced one, but it's very unlikely they've been working on it while Wipeout HD was in development. They are probably now watching sales to see how much demand there is for it. There's no doubt that there are a lot of hardcore Wipeout fans out there, but sales have probably dropped considerably since the PS1 days.

Or they can also go the Warhawk route and just keep expanding WOHD, with new modes, tracks, etc.

They can easily use this very same engine for a "real" sequel.  Or if this bombs, maybe they can port whatever tracks they may have been working on into DD content.  I mean, honestly, would you really expect the real sequel to look much better or different than this?  WipeOut's sort of had the same visual philosophy since day 1.

But man, PLEASE let them update it - played again - and it's no where near as good gameplay wise as Pulse.

For some reason, I actually skipped out on Pulse.  I suppose the promise of Wipeout HD and the fact that it didn't seem any more optimized than Pure pushed me to wait.  What exactly differed between them?  I've briefly played Pulse and it felt no different to me, but I obviously couldn't judge it from a demo.  It's still worth picking up on its own then?  I always thought it was simply more Pure (just new tracks).

I can't really tell the difference. The auto pilot is very strong is you race with it on-- in an online race, they need to patch in the ability to turn that off.

They definitely need to patch it to filter out auto pilot users in online modes.  Everyone uses auto pilot online.  It's kinda sad.

When I first turned the game on I set it to 100% and I didn't play the game that night. Ever since then I've been struggling to surpass 4th place in any race. I tried shifting it down to 10% and now I'm getting first every time. Silly.

I like that when you score gold in fast lap they just end it now, I always dreaded those in the PSP game.
