We got into a rather crazy argument because he loathed Casino Royale. He was upset that Bond was blonde and old, he couldn't follow the plot, there was no Q or Moneypenny and that it was nowhere as good as Die Another Day. I told him that critics were scoring it rather high and he was like, "WELL I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT!"

He prefers the Star Wars prequels to the original trilogy, he likes X-Men 3 more than say, The Shawshank Redemption and he professes his undying love for films such as Van Helsing, Mission: Impossible 2 and - again - Die Another Day.

He also paid money to see films like Elektra, Zoom and Battlefield Earth in theatres.

He thinks The Departed looks boring.

My uncle was in the Navy, circling the globe and savin' lives with a failed marriage under his belt. A mutual friend put them together so she could get her citizenship and he could get free food and someone to help around the apartment. It was only supposed to be until she got her citizenship.

To tell the truth he sounds a bit like my mom, who also hates that the new Bond is blonde. That's perfectly understandable to me since she - and your uncle I assume - grew up with Connery. The plot is pretty complicated though.

I think you're lying about the Star Wars part though; or at least that's what I'm going to tell myself so I can sleep tonight.

My mom has good taste generally, but she LOVES just about any movie with monsters/action/etc that's not extremely over the top violence wise. For instance, she gave Van Helsing a 9.5 and X-Men 3 a 9.
