Rumble Roses XX on 360 - will J version play on US?
« on: September 26, 2008, 06:42:26 AM »
Can anyone confirm if Rumble Roses XX for Japan will play on a US 360?

Play-Asia shows the US version will play on both US and Japanese 360s just fine, but the Japanese entry for RRXX Platinum Hits shows Japan = OK, US = Big Ass Question Mark.

Almost EVERY J-360 game is region locked for reasons I will never understand.

RRXX is REALLY bad btw. Broken controls, inexplicable campaign mode, the worst achievements EVER. The first one was dumb fun, but this one was like it was made by a totally different team.

I liked the first one; it had a simple rock-paper-scissors design scheme and was a pretty, for a late-era PS2 game. I've heard that switching to RRXX is like trading in a cute, funny, witty girlfriend for a new one who is prettier, but dumber than a bag of hammers. Still, I'll play it if I can find it; it's not like I'm looking for Oneechanbara X...  :P

Yeah, my impression is that J-region games are locked to J-360s, which are the same as Asia-region 360s. But in contrast, "Asia-region" games are rarely locked to any particular region.

Not like it's particularly easy to find 360 games at ANY retailer around Osaka anyway, but the logic of J-360 is an Asia-360, but J-games are locked and Asia-games are not, it feels like the "Who's on first?" comedy routine to me.

Yeah, what IS with the lack of import game stores in Osaka?  I only went there once and was shocked that I couldn't find anything in Den Den Town.

At least you can get 360 games online from retailers...it was quite the hunt finding a Japanese copy of KOF Neowave for the original Xbox.  Still can't find Outrun 2 or SP (is that even BC?).

Almost EVERY J-360 game is region locked for reasons I will never understand.

Can't say I had a problem with the controls, but yeah...the campaign mode is shitty (the cheesy story mode rocked in the original!), the "create a wrestler" mode is a JOKE, and the achievements are only second to DOAX2 as the worst ever.  There is an easy way to get the championship though...all you need to do is fight and win against the original 11 girls.  It's random who you fight, but you can just keep doing street fights and back out of them until you face everyone.

Definitely enjoyed the original more, but I can't say I thought RRXX sucked.  Would love to see a sequel or enhanced version of the original on PSP.

Those achievements are pretty insane.  It's amazing how much you've played of that game yet have so few points.

Anyway, not all J-games are region locked, just the majority of them.  I'm pretty sure Lost Planet Colonies is region free, for one.

I'm sure you can get the USA version off of Ebay for like $5 tho, I'm sure one of them ships to Japan.

Thanks for the eBay tip; i was going to try for US version through Amazon z-shops, but it turns out the game might not ship while my wife's in the US to pick it up.

By the way, Lyte Edge, at least one place in Nipponbashi has imports: A-Too, pretty far down along the main drag there, on the west side of the street. There's another A-Too closer to Sofmap, but it's all used anime and teh pr0nz.

FWIW, I've now confirmed that the J-version will not play on a US 360.  :maf
