Metroid Prime 3 - Haven't played, but probably the same old crappy shit like the last two.

Super Mario Galaxy - Haven't played because I hate Mario games.

Twilight Princess - Played. Total shit.

Okami - Played for 7 hours on the PS2. SHIT.

Zack & Wiki - Haven't played because it looks zzzzzz.

Super Paper Mario - Played. omgsohorrible.

de Blob - WTF is this?

Wii Fit - This is on a game list?

Super Smash Bros. - Played. Same old shit except with Snake and and a shitty sidescrolling game added onto it.

Resident Evil 4 - Played on the GC. Good. Not great.

Wario Land: Shake It! - Looks like fun. Will pick it up soon.

SSX Blur - lol

Scarface - lol

Trauma Center - The DS version was hard. Can't imagine the Wii version being any easier.

Boom Blox - lol

Medal of Honor 2 - lol

Pro Evolution Soccer - lol

No More Heroes - The only game that deserves to be on the list.

Mario Kart - omglolollololol

Excite Truck - Haven't played, but lol anyway.

Not listed...

Castle of Shikigami III
Blast Works
House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return
Ghost Squad
Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles

the Sega Wii light gun shooters are especially nice, but that could just be my TVC-and-Nick-Cave level of love towards all things rail shooters.

So you made a thread that you saw from GA, and that it's about the wii, and it's a list, and it's a list about 20 wii games worth owning.

At one point did you say to yourself "Maybe I shouldn't post this. It is a stupid thread."

I actually started to get curious about de blob and decided to watch the IGN video review of it.  This Matt Casamasida guy can't be serious here; he is actually take time out of his way to talk about how good the menus and load times are, then in the background you see some standard interface with giant buttons and a loading screen.  Apparently the loading time is fine because you scribble as it loads.   :lol He is calling using the menus and experiencing load time part of the 'good experience.  Hahahaha He straight up tells people to buy this game if only to support third party games on the Wii.  The game itself looks alright, but this guy is a shill extraordinaire.

MY TURN!

Metroid Prime 3 - Don't care, didn't play the first two either.  GIVE ME FUCKING NORMAL METROID.

Super Mario Galaxy - Yeah it's good.

Twilight Princess - Couldn't get past the waggle.  BUT perhaps it should be listed as essential because of the Twilight Hack.

Okami - If I was going to play this, it would be the PS2 version.

Zack & Wiki - To quote Greatness Gone, "zzzzzzzzzzz."

Super Paper Mario - Crap.

de Blob -  ???

Wii Fit - This isn't really a "game" per say.

Super Smash Bros. - Good game.  Lost interest in it pretty quick, but it is a fun game, alebit more of the same.

Resident Evil 4 - ROCKS, and the control scheme is great, but that still doesn't change the fact that this is a port-up of a GC and PS2 game.

Wario Land: Shake It! - Good game.  I need to play more.

SSX Blur - The controls ruin it.

Scarface - Seriously?

Trauma Center - Don't care. I played Life And Death on my Apple IIgs back in the 80s, thanks.

Boom Blox - Never played it, would like to try it.

Medal of Honor 2 - :lol

Pro Evolution Soccer - Don't care.

No More Heroes - Started out strong and got boring quick.  Love the story and bosses, the rest is just zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Mario Kart - OK sure, Fun game.

Excite Truck - Awesome game.

------

Now, the REAL list would just be a bunch of Virtual Console games.   ;)

Removing the shit-filth listed by IGN, this is my list of the best:

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mario Kart Wii
Excite Truck
Wario Land Shake
Resident Evil 4
Samurai Spirits Rokuban Shoubu (J)
Guilty Gear XX Accent Core
Ghost Squad
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles
Sengoku Basara 2 + Heroes (J)

Now let's break this down even further and remove the games available on other platforms:

Super Mario Galaxy
Super Smash Bros. Brawl
Mario Kart Wii
Excite Truck
Wario Land Shake
Ghost Squad
Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles

...And look what's left.  Endless Nintendo rehashessequels, a Sega arcade port, and a Capcom game.  It's just like the Game Cube all over again.  For a system so damned popular amongst the great unwashed, it sure doesn't seem to have much going for it.  Then again, I own far more Wii games than I do PS3 games, and despite my somewhat large 360 collection, only a few games really stand out as my favorites.

In short, this gen still kinda sucks.   :P

fuck you assholes, MOH Heroes 2 is a decent game with excellent FPS controls and a fun rail shooter mode - graphics are subpar, though (psp total)

The Wii is a system that is great for Nintendo games and light gun games (not as good as the PS2 with Guncon 2 or PS3 with Guncon 3, but they don't get as much support).  There is an occasional good game on the side, but for the most part it is those two things.  It also doesn't help that many of the Nintendo games are also pretty crappy.  Super Paper Mario? Bwii? both are crap.  I honestly don't see how you can claim you are interested in video games (or at least on an enthusiast level) and be a Wii only owner.  The people that do live like that are those who list 'Nintendo' under interests or hobbies while they pretend to enjoy their shitty ports of mundane third party games and gradually find ways to lower their already exceedingly low expectations for quality.  Still, despite the dreadful state the Wii is in for people who want both quality and quantity, my favorite games of the past three years are on the Wii.

Needs Fire Emblem.  Goddamn, why is such a great SRPG overlooked?

Pro Evolution Soccer is absolutely fantastic, not a port of the awful PS360 version, and the control scheme makes it the best soccer game on the market.

I've heard nothing but good things for Medal of Honor Heroes 2 too.

Some of you guys just hate for the sake of it, I won't say that all the games on that list are gold, but just because the game doesn't interest you doesn't mean it's a bad game.

I'll just mention games that I actually played and what I think of them.

Metroid Prime 3 - Just judging it along and not as the sequel to a 16-bit legend, it's awesome.  Nobody who's played it would deny that it has great controls for an fps game and that it has jaw-dropping atmosphere.  The scanning you have to do is negligible (to activate things or get puzzle hints) but if you're an OCD gamer, then you would spend quite a while to scan every single thing in the game.

Super Mario Galaxy - I was never a huge platformer fan and therefore never a huge mario fan.  I've never played a platformer that just felt this perfect though.  The only way that this game could get better was if it physically washed your balls because of how much time you'll spend sitting down playing it.

Super Smash Bros. - This series is basically like the anti-christ of fighting games, but it's more awesome than that actually.  If you want a generic party game that everybody knows how to play, this is obviously on the top of that list.  If you're into the SSB genre (it is it's own genre reallydoesn't follow any specific genre guideline) then this is the best game in that genre.  There's so much to unlock that you'll get your money's worth.

Resident Evil 4 - RE games try to make it feel really tense by making you actually work against the controls.  I thought that the analogue stick was too slow for RE4's aiming in the last-gen versions so I never bothered with the GC/PS2 versions.  The wiimote made it a lot easier to aim at multiple targets and that made it actually manageable for me.  The graphics have aged well (for SD) and this comes with ada side-missions so if you've never played the RE4 before and you own a wii, this is a must-buy.

I have a 360 that works flawlessly.

Yeah, amazing how a strategy RPG actually requires a huge amount of strategy!  You can't just foolishly send units out on a strategy that you're guessing with and rely on reviving them, every turn in FE needs to be perfectly planned.  You have to group your units together so that they won't be picked off, you have to plan attacks wisely so you don't leave yourself open afterwards.  Nothing more exciting than an intense battle that you just barely manage to get out of with everyone alive despite bad odds!  If you lose someone, you always end up with a huge pool of reserve units after the first few missions, and you can use group experience to level them up.  As long as you're not an idiot and lose 90% of your army, you can afford a few losses.

I can understand why some people can't enjoy this game, but it definitely deserves to be in the top of Wii games.

Metroid Prime 3 - Good. Better than Echoes but not as good as Prime.

Super Mario Galaxy - Fucking awesome. <3 SMG

Twilight Princess - One of the worst Zelda games.

Okami - Made a thread about it here on the Bore months ago. Beautiful but patronizingly easy. Plus the waggle attacks sucked.

Zack & Wiki - Haven't played.

Super Paper Mario - HORRIBLE. lolamirox

de Blob - Haven't played.

Wii Fit - Haven't played; don't intend to.

Super Smash Bros. - Really disappointing. Much slower than SSBM. Online play is phenomenally poor.

Resident Evil 4 - Prefer the GC controls and its stylish laser pointer.

Wario Land: Shake It! - Looks pretty. Haven't played it.

SSX Blur - Haven't played it.

Scarface - Haven't played it.

Trauma Center - Enjoyable, but that's as far as its praise gets.

Boom Blox - Haven't played it.

Medal of Honor 2 - Haven't played it.

Pro Evolution Soccer - Haven't played it although it's a rare example where a game may actually benefit from waggle. Fellow footballers will have to tell me the verdict.

No More Heroes[ - I dig the style but I didn't think the combat was very fun.

Mario Kart - OK, I guess. Wii Wheel sucks though.

Excite Truck - Excite Truck actually is really fucking fun.

So basically:

Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, and Excite Truck are the only games on Matt C.'s list that I've played and thought were worth it. I'd also add Ghost Squad.

Control system is actually brilliant. No longer does the AI control player movement - you can dribble one player and send players on runs with the controller. You can build ups some killer moves and great through passes.  Defense was hard at first but once you get the hang of man marking and closing men down it's brilliant.  Plus, you never have annoying passes in to nowhere, passes in to touch and players stood still waiting to receive the ball as it is intercepted by the opposition team.

There are all the usual league and cup comps as well as online play. Lack of transfers and being able to edit kits etc is a bit of a let down but the amount of control over your team this game offers is unsurpassed.

The game is awesome and the control system is nowhere near as complicated as it first looks.  As a veteran PES/WE player I can safely say it is the best incarnation of the game I have ever played.  I absolutely can't wait for the next version of the game.
