Accounting: I have a test on thursday, haven't studied much but I'm not worried. The teacher is like 26, has an MBA and CPA. Pretty badass :bow

Econ: It's been interesting talking about the bailout/economy for a change. In fact I kinda stopped going to class until we started talking about important stuff.

African American studies: Easily my most interesting class. Last week the teacher had a Nation of Islam leader speak to us about reparations but he went off and started talking about how white people are devils and how Obama is the "greatest American deception." Yesterday was our first class since that hate speech, and I really think our teacher has effectively lost the class. People were voicing their concern and anger over what happened, and while our teacher claimed she told the dude to only talk about reparations it seems like she's getting blamed. I can't wait for teacher evaluations lol, she's gonna get shitcanned. Not only did this black supremacist call white people devils, he championed his religion in class.

On a side note there's this hoooot girl in my class who I'm trying to talk to, but after every lecture she disappears and I can't find her. :(

I missed about 2 weeks of econ at one point. Our first test is on October 27th so I think I have more than enough time to catch up. Basically the only class I haven't skilled is african american studies since it's actually interesting. plus the chick of course

Because of the beauty of the internet, I have 20 different class notes for each of my classes. There are a million case briefs on the internet. So I'll be fine when the exams roll around. Not like I'd participate in class discussions anyway.

yea but law classes are always awesome though. unless it's real estate or some shit

I rarely contributed to my law classes but it was fun watching different groups grow - the emotional people who don't care about facts of law, the heartless realists (meee), strict constitutionalists, That Guy Who Always Has Something distinguished mentally-challenged to Say, etc

Japanese 101 (4 credits): It's actually pretty fun so far. I've been destroying the quizzes so far, hopefully I can keep it up when we get our first exam.

Calculus (4 credits): Omg, this is the most boring teacher I've ever had in my life. The work is easy so far though. No exam yet.

Calculus Lab (1 credit): Another boring class, but this time it's because of the program Maple. I've only handed in 1 of 3 labs so far.

Advanced Accounting (3 credits): No homework so far besides reading and seems like common sense so far. The teacher is good, but a bit of a pervert. First exam will be on Monday.

Cost Accounting 2 (2 credits): The teacher is really good, but I've been slacking off. First exam mid October.

Auditing (4 credits): The teacher is this sarcastic old black dude who used to work for Deloitte and reminds me a lot of Morgan Freeman. The class jokes around a lot and the girl I'm interested in sits next to me, so this is my favorite class atm. First exam end of October.

calculus is easy but it's boring.  the teacher is decent and the workload is small but I always fall asleep in math.

my bio class is scarily awesome because you get full credit in the labs just for basically attendance and we can use internet and work with other students for the mid-terms (she hates tests).  I hate the slimmed down chemistry that they use though.

chem is decent since 5/6 chapters this term will be things that we already did in my previous chem class at another school (went from a semester to quarter school) and the teacher actually is decent.  the one downside is that it ends around 10:00 at night so I might not get home in time for the shield.

It's sad that this is the perfect time for me to get a job again.

Introduction to Biology - About as difficult as an introduction to biology could be.  Fortunately, since there are so many stupid girls who want to be a doctor that I'll always get an A, thanks to the curve.

Ethnic, Race, and Gender Studies in Journalism - A waste of time.  Nothing has been turned in yet and for the past two weeks, we've been watching episodes of Noah's Arc.  Noah's Arc is a show about a bunch of black dudes banging every black guy that moves.  Every black guy is gay or bi.

Groundwater Hydrology - Sucks.  Taking a graduate course was a stupid idea.

Senior Design II - Ok

Reinforced Concrete - Challenging but nothing I can't handle

All my classes are pretty boring.  First class can be entertaining at times and there is little work, plus there is some hardcore republican guy who makes an ass out of himself every class which leads to dozens of raised hands telling him he's wrong.  Some girl in my second class keeps trying to flirt with me, but I don't like her or anyone in that class...at least the teacher is cool because he is really weird.  Third class is the most boring thing ever.  The teacher is all about battling semantics and making kids pissed off.  The only good thing about the third class is that since it is a religion class, you get some hilarious comments from the others there.  Other classes are also pretty boring.  At least the work load is minimal.

Don't you have to attend a minimum number of classes? The ABA in the US mandates that students who miss more than 80% of a class cannot take the final (fail the class). I should have done law school in Canada  :usacry

They probably don't know but they may have you sign a statement before or at the start of the final exam (or mid -term if you have year long classes) saying that you attended such and such number of classes. Some of my professors did take attendance, it sucked balls.

BTW, I withdrew and couldn't be happier. Law School was miserable for me. Good luck though!

PS: Outlines are awesome and you might be able to find them in the library rather than pay for them. Also, hornbooks can be useful for some classes but are a waste of time and money for others. I would say that hornbooks would be useful in Con Law and Contracts, but probably not necessary for Torts, Crim Law, Property, or Civ Pro.... Of course this is all from an American perspective and things will be different in Canada.

PPS: Make friends, go out and blow off steam on the weekend, get laid.

Linear Algebra - So far, it's easy. Teacher is terrible though
Differential Equations - Really enjoying it. The teacher is great, workload isn't too bad either.
French - Always had fun learning the language, hasn't changed.
Politics and Mass Media - Very interesting class, especially now.

Calc I:  Good stuff.
Latin:  fun too
Intro to Knowledge, mind and existence:  $600 to have a 70 yearold lady tell us which lines of plato to highlight because they'll be on the test.   :'( :'( :'(
Ethics:  Great.  It's more about how to apply philosophical arguments to ethical systems so far.

Criminology- kicking ass on some quizzes, turned in a decent solid "B" or "A if they go easy" paper

Korean Culture + Civ- nothing graded yet, professor is insane, but good when he's not on a bizarre rant.

Intro. to Daoism- no assignments yet, great course.

Japanese Cinema- much more difficult than I thought it would be...learning a lot about cinema analysis and in turn, about semiotics.  no assignments yet.

Pretty much have easy classes, but each one only has like 2 papers and a final, besides Criminology.

Oh, and the LSAT this Saturday, which I'm ready to kick the shit out of after about 4 months of practice.

This is only my first semester of college, so I knew it was gonna be like this, so...

Easiest couple weeks of school I've ever had.

Math: Basic Algebra, I sweat I think everyone here stopped taking math in like 8th grade, cause that's where it seems to have picked up.

Spanish 1: Never had Spanish in high school, figure I'd take it now.  Easy.

College Writing: Full of fucking morons.  Two people didn't know what a quotation mark was.  The professor is a raging hippie.  I shit things better than what some of these people write.  Waste of a class that frankly I'm offended I have to take.

Understanding of Music: Awesome class.  Only large lecture class I have, but it's a lot of material dealing with the history of Western Art music.  Great shit.  Got a 95 on the test, highest in the class.  There were people who get 30 some percents.  smh

My AP scores really cut me some slack this semester, as I have literally nothing.

Formal Logic: Working with multiple generalities in first-order predicate logic now (determining validity through truth trees). The work is starting to get difficult, esp. symbolically translating sentences that involve multiple generalities. It's enough to make your head spin.

Politics of the American South: The prof. is an AWESOME lecturer so I'm getting a lot out of this class. It's writing intensive, and I do enjoy essays.

Honors Economics: Had the first exam recently and it wasn't too bad. I still had to study for like 18 hours straight though since I was so far behind in the material. Easy concepts, but it's a lot of shit to remember.

Honors Capstone Thesis: haven't even gotten started on it yet. God help me.

Yeah, I won't be following that last post-postscript

the thing I most disliked was the rigidness that was applied to all written assignments, be it exams, LRW or whatever.  I rather enjoyed the research aspect. I had a LRW (Legal research and Writing) professor that forced us to do all of our research in the library, no using Westlaw or Lexis Nexis. I fucking loved it since it was like solving a puzzle.

when I get right down to it, I hated 2 things
1. I hated the bullshit citing and gramar requirements. At the school I went to if the cite wasn't perfect often the professor would disregard the entire paragraph made around that cite. by that I mean, every period, every comma, every spot cite had to be perfect.
2. I hated all the case briefing bullshit that won't help you in the real world and the subsequent Socratic method that focused solely on the case rather than the legal ideas we were supposed to take away from the case.

again, good luck. It just wasn't for me. Luckily I have landed a good job and will be A-ok from now on.

Have two classes and the lit mag.

Math is fine so far, even if its lots of homework. The fact I am almost done with math for the rest of my life keeps me going.

Screenwriting has made me lose respect for film and screenplays, learning that it is so rigid and formula based.  So far it feels unnatural as opposed to all other writing I've tried.

The Lit Mag is pretty much finished without 2009 issue, the 2008 issue won Best in Nation(suck it harvard) and now we begin on 2010.

"Due to the fact that" sounds more natural to me at the beginning of a sentence, but "since" would be better than both.

"Because" or "since" are both better options than "Do to the fact that". Don't know if you are starting off by writing memo's but one thing my professor did was assign us a memo to write (IRAC) and put something like a 7 page limit on it. At first you think; "sweet only a 7 pager." then you realize that to write it "correctly" and have all the information presented and arguments posed in a logical manner is going to take you 10 pages. How the fuck can you cut down 10 pages to 7 pages and keep all the content? It's a bitch and thus expressing things in the most concise manner possible becomes very necessary.

I've always thought of "because" as a transitional kind of word, but I suppose people flip around cause and effect clauses all the time.  of course it would be the better option for an IRAC memo and probably any paper where it's better to constrain your style.

but what the fuck do i know, i'm not even in law school, so just ignore me :lol

My school runs on quarter system so we're on break now.   :D

Commercial/Hospitality Design
- Presentation went off without a hitch.  I was able to convince the Culinary director of my proposal's feasibility and she was even, dare I say it, impressed with my work!

Interior Design Sketch Techniques - It went well.  We got out of class an hour early.  Yay.  Hour more to work on thesis.

Thesis Presentation - Presentation went well though I had to throw the walkthrough out.  The rendering was stopped just before the first third was done.  Someone keeps turning the computers in the lab off - especially the ones with renderings running.  I'm hoping it's some terrible render-hating sprite because if not somebody's going to have my foot rammed SO far up their ass.

I made some major changes last minute.  I don't regret it - still stand by my decisions but having those time constraints I didn't catch how it altered some major features of my existing design.  Meh.  Have to make sure I go over it again and fix that before the new quarter starts.

Construction Documents and Details I - This class ended well.  I had the project done a week ahead of time so I didn't have to worry much about it.  I forgot to include the elevations in the sheet set but I don't mind being docked for that - we had to turn in the working CAD files too so he can see I've done them.

All in all, this has been a very fast quarter.  Fun though.   :)

European Security and Defense Policy: No paper yet, fuck-ton amount of reading and I missed a week of class and work since i went on vacation. Yes, right after the term started.

Global Theories of IR: Mostly a refresher course but another fuck-ton amount of reading, and this book belongs on some all-time list in obtuseness. I feel like burning it.

I'm not on semesters, and today is pretty much the first week of the quarter, but...

Critical Practice (English) -  The professor's a riot--one of those old academic types who's really animated... should be fun.
The Romantic Age (English) -  Interesting reads so far... professor seems cool.. She has a really thick accent though.
Drugs and Society (Sociology) -  Professor's this old NYC cop turned Dr... and he's got all kinds of interesting stories.

I learnt today that my philo teacher is a new-ager.  She always keeps on going on about how awesome everything was "back then"  or more accurately she speaks about anything new with disgust. So today she was talking about how some scientist recently said that the earth tries to control it's temperature almost as if it had a purpose.  She then used this to try and justify Aristotle's natural law theory and then went on to talk about how much wisdom we had back then and how thinking in terms of causality has lead us astray.

Half the class snicked.

The teacher should have killed someone to make an example of them... that's what I would've done.
