The game looks great and can actually work on the Wii.  Games like this and Wild Guns where you control the character, but it is still basically a light gun game are the perfect genre for the console.

there's like 20-some guys at Treasure.  Not to say they can't do a HD game, but, well, lets just say that super-awesome 3D graphics (which they have done, with outside help) would be a miss allocation of their talents.

side note.  I fucking guarantee that Treasure is only doing the creative direction/elite work for this game.  All the grunt work will be done by anonymous coders working for Nintendo, maybe even TOSE, Cavia, or whomever proposed the best budget.  But Treasure does not have the resources to do this kind of thing all by themselves over a relatively short period of time.

if that was a bet rather than a guarantee, i'd take it. it would be thoroughly unlike treasure to outsource the 'gruntwork,' or even to consider coding and low-level design 'gruntwork' -- treasure's directors and lead designers are often also coders or musicians or background artists. they did collaborate with g-rev on ikaruga and g5, but they did not collaborate with nintendo on s&p1. and i don't see what's so demanding about a ps2-level rail shooter anyway

Why does it look bad? When you consider the quality art style it's rather impressive. I know it's not HD level but honestly, do 360/PS3 games really look that impressive? Remember how they were supposed to look like Pixar movies and the Madden video? In that respect HD gaming has been nothing but a disappointment whereas Nintendo keeps surprising me

a gamer of class and distinction should never settle for wii in a subgenre where quality is primarily dictated by graphics

you put three-dee shooters on rails to provide a visual thrill-ride, not gamely coast through homely last-gen visuals

seriously, would the panzer dragoon games been as compelling an experience if they'd been on hardware from the preceding generation

hell, would any arcade rail shooter be fondly remembered if it had crappy visuals at the time of release

That's really you're opinion, if you were an expert you'd be making games.

The art style is truly fantastic, sure the textures aren't perfect but they do the job very well. It's not going to win awards but it's going to be fun, exciting, and most importantly innovative which is something that's often overlooked in this HD era of gaming.

ideally you put shooters on rails as a variation on the tightly-controlled arcade gameplay of a 2d shooter, and panzer zwei remains more compelling qua ludus than panzer orta or rez or whatever that shitty xbla rail shooter is called. s&p1 is still awesome, and n64 graphics were never attractive

pretty much, I mean, the gameplay of a rail shooter is a DISNEYLAND THRILLRIDE of non-stop sights and sounds

and Disney upgrades their tech all the time. why? because nobody wants to ride 1960s era tech Pirates of the Carribean in 2008

just like nobody wants to play Sin and Punishment 2 on the Wii

This is the dumbest observation I have seen in this thread because it basically says that rail shooters are just thrill rides and don't have any deep gameplay to offer, which is bullshit.

this is the one genre where pointer controls can do no harm -- but controls are neither here nor there. i'm excited about a sequel to the best- or second-best game in a distinguished if sparsely-packed genre. obviously it sucks that wii has kept ps2-class hardware limping on in hideous undeath, but i don't know why rail shooters are being victimized particularly as a graphics-dependent genre. starfox 1 never looked good. panzer 1 ran at 15fps and you could count the polys on your fingers. s&p1 was an n64 game, and n64 was a fundamentally mistaken piece of hardware. i mean it's not like rail shooters are jrpgs, where the entertainment value is entirely dependent on the clarity with which you can suss the curvature of the prepubescent heroine's boyish nates through her day-glo miniskirt

Waggle contrls with rail shooter gameplay was one of the things I was excited about when I first heard about the wii. It one of the reasons I felt the system had so much potential.

So yeah, I have faith in them to pull off a solid experience.

I've been waiting for this for a few years. Let us bask in the awesome that are rail shooters.

i couldn't play starfox 1 past the time of release. and i couldn't get into either pd original or zwei particularly, because they were ugly for the time -- if they had came out in the ps2 era, i wouldn't even touch 'em with himu's dick. i understand they can and do have good arcade play mechanics, but i demand crazy visuals to accompany them, because that's what the arcade-style experience is -- orgiastic visuals wed to staccato gameplay. 3d has an immersive, in-your-face effect that 2d doesn't, and if you aren't gonna try to maximize that, just knock me out a decent 2d shooter instead.

since arcade gameplay can no longer command the budgets associated with orgiastic visuals, i'll settle. anyway, good arcade games outlive the shock of their visuals -- and i wonder if i can say as much for gears or uncharted

and no way was pd zwei ugly for the time! it belonged to the 15 minutes when saturn seemed adequately competitive with ps1. though i guess that whole console generation paled next to model 2

i miss the 90s :'(

Can't really recall too many good games for the Pippin, CD-32, 7800, or the Jaguar CD... well 32x had Chaotix and Virtua Racing and a VF1 port... PC-FX had a Langrisser port, and Jaguar had Tempest and Alien vs Predator.
