Renting-Bore: Has my land lady split? Am I fucked?

Im renting this sweet apartment and everything was going good until last month. My land lady never picked up September's rent. She likes to pick up the checks to check on the apartment. She emailed my roommate and I and said that she was in india because her mom had cancer. October rolls around and she still never picked up September's check, in addition she never picked up October's rent nor any of the bill checks. All of the bills are in her name. At first I thought it was kind of cool. I get to hand on to my money a little longer. But two days ago the internet went out. After a few phone calls to her office and a few voice mails later she still hasnt gotten back to me. What is going on with her?


Is there any way I can get fucked here? What if my electricity goes out?

They might not be able to shut off your electricity/water as long as you're living there. I'd call your City Hall or whatever right away, though. You have proof that you've attempted to pay your rent and everything, so the burden is no longer on you.

I have no idea what they'll have you do, though. I hope it all works out!
