MAF, distantmantra, Himu, fill me with your hot Gundam jizzum.
« on: October 08, 2008, 09:38:11 PM »
Okay, so apparently Gundam 00 is balls-out awesome. I can't wait for Season 2 to take it's sweet time to come out though, so which Gundam series should I digest next?

Mobile Suit Gundam?
Zeta Gundam?
0080: War in the Pocket?
0083: Stardust Memory?
Mobile Fighter G Gundam?
Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team?
SD Gundam?
Gundam SEED?
OMGWTFBBQ Gundam?

There's like a billion Gundam series. All I've seen is Gundam Wing.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 (movie trilogy)
Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket
Mobile Suit Gundam 0083: Stardust Memory
Mobile Suit Gundam 08th MS Team

Watch these. Never watch SEED or SD Gundam.

Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 (movie trilogy)

So should I skip the complete original series, and just watch the movie trilogy? I understand that it's sort of an abridged version of the series.

Watch in this order:

0079 movie trilogy
0080: War in the Pocket
08th MS team
0083 Stardust memory
Zeta Gundam
Char's Counterattack
Victory Gundam
MS Igloo

Shows you can watch at any time because they have no specific timeline:

Turn A Gundam (currently watching this for the first time, fucking amazing. However, even though it's its own entity, it manages to bridge ALL the gundams before it - UC, Wing, whatever - into one cohesive story).

Gundam Wing (still fun to this day. it was my first gundam, not high on the list but worth checking out)

Gundam Seed (don't believe the hate, the show is actually pretty good, particularly in the second half)

Gundam 00 (currently the thing we're all watching now)

Distant can probably give a better post, but whatever. Most of the stuff in the first part of the list are relatively short because they're either 1. movies 2. ova's only Zeta and Victory are the tv series in my list for UC.

I don't see why. The second half is really entertaining. People die left and right. Left a smile on my face. Plus, Kira, unlike other gundam pilots is a total p-i-m-p. Dude fucks chicks and gets pussy.

Seed Destiny is the Gundam you want to avoid.

Personally, my favorite Gundam's are 08th MS and 0079.

ya the second half isn't so bad.  From the desert tiger shit on wards.  I acually saw the second last episode first and thought it was the most awesome thing I've ever saw.  Then i watched the whole 50 eps just to find out that was the best one  :'(

Actually, when I mean second half, I mean like, ep 29 and up. I don't think Seed ever lets up after that. It's just awesome moment after awesome moment. Kinda like Zeta but of course, not nearly as good.

Plus, the third OP is like, one of the top 5 best Gundam OP's. EVER.

Seed is ok, Seed Destiny takes a dump on the new characters halfway in by bringing back all of the old characters and having them stomp all over the dreams of the new characters. Its pretty lol when you think about it.

Yeah. It's like they're the new main characters of the show but they're not, because the focus is entirely on the old characters.

I thought the main character was whatever that kid was, and then I realized it was really Kira Jesus who saved the day all the time.

I stopped watching halfway. My least favorite Gundam experience by a mile.

Nice.

Hope you know that CCA is the last part of the Amuro/Char story though but it's not even connected to Zeta so it matters not. But that's my entire problem. I'm not big on the new cast in CCA, but it's a good movie despite that.

I was just going to get the Movie Trilogy box set, but then I found that box set and it was basically the same price so I thought what the heck.

Himuro's recommendations are pretty spot on. I would've said the same thing, except that watching ZZ after Zeta and before CCA is recommended. After War Gundam X is pretty awesome, too.

I assume Gundam ZZ and Gundam X are still import-only. And by import, I mean Bittorrent.

ZZ, V, X, and Turn A have yet to be released in North America. And at this rate, I doubt they ever will. Turn A is from 1999, it's a Tomino Gundan, it's a standalone series, and it has music by Yoko Kanno. I don't understand why King Gainer got over here, but Turn A hasn't....

The Zeta movie trilogy kind of negates it's existence, but the second half when Tomino takes back the reigns is pretty cool.

It isn't like a normal Gundam series, but it is pretty awesome.  It is a fighting anime with a lot of manly screaming and speaking with fists, except these fists are giant robots.  Plus there is a horse mech that can be ridden on and makes absolutely no sense at all.

It's directed by the same guy who did the Giant Robo OVAs. It's very over the top. Closest thing you'll get to a Gundam Super Robot show.
