It's because they live in a state with the word Dakota in it. You can trust me, I grew up there.

in a stunningly rare display of political consistency, my dad, who was turned off of kerry by the swift boat efforts, was ALSO turned even further off of mccain by that rolling stone article about mccain's military service. ultimately, though, he thinks mccain is a "wall street socialist" and that obama is merely "toothless," so he grudingly admits he'll vote obama. this is actually pleasantly surprising, since my dad drops the n-bomb in conversation at LEAST every fifteen minutes. :o

mccain is so awful that even some dyed-in-the-wool RACISTS will pick a black man over him! :o :o :o

My family voted straight Republican their entire lives. My dad likely because of some mistaken financial logic and my Mom because she believed all Democrats were corrupt  :-\

But now my mom is voting for Obama and my Dad is joke voting  :D

You have to wonder how McCain as a man of his generation is really dealing with losing out to a relatively young black dude.

My thinking on the matter is that as Obama stays ahead in the polls and it gets closer to the election, you will see more and more shit like the "kill him", "treason", and "terrorist" moments happening at McCain-Palin rallies.  The people most likely to go to a Republican rally are increasingly more likely to be dumb and racist, and when they hear McCain or Palin say something negative about Obama (which is the only card they have left to play) it will be seen as tacit approval to start yelling about killing him.  I predict we'll hear a couple of shouts of n***** at rallies as it gets closer to the election.  And I also think that's just going to turn independents and non racists off of McCain even more.

I love the fact that the media is covering this, and putting these comments on air for all to see.

I think we're witnesses a very loud minority of people slowly realize they don't control the outcome of US elections anymore, and it's scaring the shit out of them. If Obama wins the map will simply get bluer and bluer. Virginia is the type of state that will remain blue, as will Colorado and NM thanks to the hispanic influence. Those three states alone will secure dem domination.

The republicans need a revolution, but before that happens they will continue to lose elections on every level. And when that revolution does occur and they start shunning the xenophoic nationalist fundie types, I wonder where the south will go this time.

From Ben Smith's blog

Quote
McCain's questioner in Wisconsin today put it clearly.

"We're all wondering why Obama is where he's at. How he got here. Everybody in this room is stunned we're in this position," he said.

Another good thing that will happen is that in 2010 we'll have another census, which will cause states like Ohio that are dying and losing population to lose electoral votes/congressional seats, and states like Virginia and NC to probably gain some.  Haha, suck it down you rural pigfuckers.  If we're really lucky DC and Puerto Rico will become states.

I was attempting to state how my family is that way even though they live in BLUE AREA.

Well, in 2004 both Nassau and Suffolk were pretty divided up between Kerry/Bush votes (same in 2000 with Bush/Gore votes I believe), with a slight Democrat lean.

The majority of my family is voting Obama (although they were all Hillary supporters in the primaries), apart from my uncle and aunt who give me the "Democrats will tax the hell out of small business owners", like themselves, spiel.

My family is 99.9% Democrat. My sister's husband is the only conservative on either side. One of my uncles is a state senator for the 25th district here in Washington state.

My wife's family, however, is another story. Being from Nebraska, they're pretty much all conservatives. Her sister and brother-in-law are the only other liberals, although her parents are both voting for Obama. It's the first time in their lives they're voting for a Democrat. :rock

Saw that a few days ago; truly fascinating. A "folksy" type republican would probably seal the deal with those people but not even Palin can get those people to vote for McCain. Some people are hurting, they feel betrayed by Bush, they AGREE McCain would be a third Bush term. And while they aren't exactly ready to vote for Obama right now, he's winning them over every single day, with every debate and every stump speech.

The way the primaries are set up...Jindal doesn't have a chance. They may love his Christian values but they love Huck's too, same with Palin. Jindal could run the greatest campaign ever and still lose to them in Iowa, South Carolina, Nevada, and the other early states. No chance

me and my Alaskan family of liberals (we are very, very rare) are voting Obama.  But I personally only know very few people who ain't voting for Palin/McCain.

We were a red state before, we will remain a red state.  And the Palin nomination got all the conservatives here (pretty much everybody) EXTRA excited about the election.  And yes, I've heard the muslim thing all before.

On my Dad's side of the family, when talking about politics, they all got pretty pissed.  When I asked about voting for Obama, my uncle's face turned red and said "I'm not voting for no fucking distinguished black fellow" and stormed off.  Most of them are pissed that the Republicans are sucking ass but can't vote for a black man.  So they plan on staying home.  A few of them.  Some are still going to vote for McCain but he's losing badly in Iowa, so it doesn't matter.

My mom's side are all Democrats but are Hillary supporters.  They're voting for Obama reluctantly.

My Dad won't be voting and my mom will be voting Obama.  However, both of them think Palin is very smart so that's still kind of a loss nonetheless.

My sister wants to vote for McCain because Palin is a woman.  She went to the Democrat caucuses to vote for Hillary.  Yeah, she's one of those people.

I'm surprised that racism hasn't been more prominent in this race so far.   When I first hear that a black guy was running I assumed that there would be burnt crosses on his front lawn the next day.

I think people keep their racism to themselves a lot more these days. Even the rednecks in that Ohio youtube vids are scared to come out and say what's clearly on their mind. Which is why I think the Bradley Effect might really come into play on Election Day.

Eh, it argues that today it doesn't exist. It didn't contribute to losses of any black politicians recently, even in very racially charged races like the Tennessee senate primaries of 06, which Harold Ford Jr. lost.

The amount of racism I"ve seen lately is appalling. In 2008, the year of the PS3, people still buy more white consoles than black. :'(

Guess nobody wanted to welcome "chang3" by supporting the black candidate. Thankfully, the presidential election is not like the console wars.

Obama = PS3 (black, "welcome chang3" marketing slogan)
Hillary = 360 (white, blows up every so often)
McCain = Wii (old (Wii is old technology), the old guy and soccer mom make up both of their demographics, not to mention the whole Nintendo=Conservative stereotype)
