Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist and My Best Friend's Girl
« on: October 10, 2008, 09:06:23 PM »
Anyone watched these?

Saw both the other night in theater and I thought both were hilarious.

I knew nothing about My Best Friend's Girl when we snuck in and then I saw Dane Cook and I cried a little.  Then I saw douche from American Pie and I cringed.  But it was hilarious.  It's like the opposite of Hitch thrown into a How To Lose A Guy in 10 Days plot that seems to set out to be the anti-romantic comedy and it worked perfectly.  My favorite thing was
spoiler (click to show/hide)
that the douchey neurotic man baby did NOT get the girl in this movie.  Thank fucking Christ.  I loved, loved, loved that.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist was just entertaining if somewhat forgettable.  Seemed well made.  Had a lot of namedropping but I mean, how can you not in a movie like this?  There were some extremely hilarious scenes.

I like Legends of the Fall.

I don't have a man card!!!

BTW Steel Magnolias isn't bad!  And My Best Friend's Girls is not a sensitive chick flick in the least.

I saw Idiocracy today.

I wonder if Michael Cera will ever have the opportunity to work outside of quirky, indie comedies.

Yeah. Michael Cera's schtick was great in AD, because at that time, it was all he had really been in, so we didnt know any better. Several films later and you realize he plays every role the exact same way.

Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist looks like the worst movie since Juno

No Cera hate here, but he plays in shitty movies.

Nick & Nora's Infinite Playlist: "Hey guys, remember how funny Superbad was? Well, here's a movie that's kind of like it, see it's got Michael Cera in it! Also, it's only rated PG-13, so you don't have to beg your 'rents to buy you tickets!"

Shia will be around for a long time simply due to the deep connections he has; Spielberg is absolutely convinced Shia is the next big thing.

Cera is the next Judy Garland

That's my views on it.  It's not exactly something I care to watch by myself.  But the funny phrases and the way they talk make for a funny movie to watch with some friends.

I somewhat liked Love, Actually.  Well, some of the stories.  And Keira Knightley is pretty hot in it.

And Superbad was good, but Nick and Norah's blah blah looks like the most horrible shit movie there is.

I saw Nick and Nora. Meh, very average, there is nothing that really sticks out in the movie. Although the drunk girl pretty much deserves a best supporting nomination unless she was actually drunk. The rest of the cast is forgettable, I can't even recall the names for anyone but Nick and Nora and that's because they're in the title. It also is so desperate to be hip that it tries not to be too hip and that just makes it all blah. It's like a Phoenix suburb, beige, bland, and doesn't go anywhere.

God, yeah. I'll agree about Liam making auto-awesome, with two qualifications: Darkman and Star Wars - Episode I, The Phantom Plotline.

I think Cera is particularly talented in off the cuff type of humor, which was really great for him in Arrested Development and Superbad.  He's leaning a little too much on the trendy teen movies now though, he needs to get back to some real humor.

No, it sucks. I'm a Raimi fan, but Darkman is the most overwrought, lost crap he's ever made. When I heard he was making Spider-Man, I recalled Darkman and was a-feared.
