What are some good, cheaper around-the-ear headphones?
« on: October 12, 2008, 05:41:12 PM »
I'm fed the fuck up with Apple's standard pieces of shit and I've always liked around the ear headphones more.

What are some good models?  Bose is probably too expensive, but are there any that come close to Bose's quality with a cheaper price point?

Also, noise-canceling is something I'm looking at as well.

Get some fuckin cans.  I use these with my synthesizers:  http://www.amazon.com/AKG-K240-Semi-Studio-Headphones/dp/B0001ARCFA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=musical-instruments&qid=1223857532&sr=8-2

Maybe I shoulda typed "over the ear"

Yeah, when I hear around the ear I think of either the queer ones that go behind your head or the queer ones that are earbuds with a bunch of shitty plastic that goes around your ears.

I am drunk and playing with my vocoder now.  This is random so I'll put it here:

Maybe I shoulda typed "over the ear"

full size or "cans" = the ones you're looking for

around the ear might mean clip-ons too.

seconding the sennheisers.  if they're anything like the HD-555s, they'll be super comfortable and sound nice.  not sure how portable they are though.

I'm usually all for over the head "real" cans, but I am gonna be buying some in-canal earbuds for some flights I have coming up.  Hopefully they won't sound too terrible, but I'm getting cheap ones (not planning to use them aside from noisy environments), so maybe I should just hope they produce intelligible sounds and block noise  :-\

Some pretty good headphones I got recently that weren't too expensive were Koss Portapros, and I've also got a pair of Grado SR-60s that are great but have a broken plug.

awesome Bose

Don't do it!   friends don't let friends buy bose  :-*

go to www.head-fi.org and read up.  you'll find something better that doesn't cost $300.
