Using a PS3 controller to play the PSP

Sounds kinda distinguished mentally-challenged.  The new silver PSP looks spiffy though.  I especially like the D-Pad and buttons.

The idea, crazy as it is, then, is that PS3 DualShock 3 controller can be used to control games, also enabling access not only to force feedback, but also to broader configuration options and control layouts. The downside, though, is that rather than simply plugging into the portable console directly, the PSP is connected via AV-out to a TV and then via USB to the PS3.

Not only that, but there is currently only one game set to be compatible with PSP Plus, Resistance: Retribution, and to use this control system gamers will need a copy of Resistance 2. Which begs the question, why would you play a PSP game on your TV when you could play a PS3 game instead? Clearly the latter will be an eminently better experience, no?

Yes, the PSP analogue stick could be improved, but this is not the way to do it.

But it would be nice to use the PSP as a console--plug it into a hotel room TV and play with a PS3 controller. The 2000 model was crippled by the ass-stupid component-only TV out

They didn't even bring up that it isn't even full screen.  Still, it is just a bonus feature and hopefully it is step 1 to Sony letting the PS3 play PSP games upscaled and in full screen.

I also noticed that they forgot to mention that playing with the DS3/Sixaxis also changes the game.  Playing it on the PSP it has an auto aim system, but if you a controller it completely turns that off and makes it totally free aim.

I don't get why anyone would do whats going on in the bottom picture.

Reading more into this it seems like to get everything in Resistance PSP you need Resistance 2.

Which would be fucking sweet considering that half the content on PSN is PSP related.  I got rid of my PSP a couple of months ago but I wouldn't mind being able to buy the new LoccoRocco off PSN and play it straight on my PS3.

Yeah, and considering that every PSP game released from now on is going to be on PSN, I would say it could be done.  I also think that they could do it with UMD games just by having the PSP act as a UMD drive while the PS3 does all the work.

Remote play is kind of cool though....in theory.  Infact it was the only reason I even bothered to play Lair.

It would useless in bionic commando rearmed....shows you how bad the timing/delay is in remote play....

So now we can use the DS3 as a remote control for the PSP while it acts as a remote for the PS3!

Yeah, but at least with CFW that is not a problem.  The image output on an SDTV doesn't look all that great though (although it is full screen, LOL)

Am I missing something here? When I tried playing fullscreen on an SDTV with that plugin it ran at like 10fps.

Maybe it got updated since the last time you tried it?  I dunno; I had to mess around with the settings to get games to run smoothly.  It depends on the screen size, memory allocation, etc.  Also play at 333mhz!
