Lyte Edge - How is SF3 on PS3?

How does it look on your TV?

How does it play with Sixaxis?

Can you take some pics?   :-[

When I tried it before, it looked and played the same as it would with a dual shock 2.  Didn't notice any difference.

But I just got a new TV friday, so I'll be glad to try it again and attempt a pic or two.  :)  I can now play it stretched in widescreen...that's probably the only difference.   :lol

Is your PS3 hooked up with Component or HDMI?  Does the PS3 force a 480p output?

Right now it's hooked up via D-Terminal (which is the same as component AFAIK).  It's a Sony Bravia that goes up to 1080i, and I have the PS3 set to output at 720p.  Just like with my previous TV, when I play PS2 games on the PS3, they stay at 480p.  If you want to play in 480i, you'll have to change the setting in the PS3 manually.  Also all the games will default to widescreen (stretched) unless you manually change that option, too.  I don't mind this on a lot of games, especially fighters, as I like the wider look.

That's neat.  SF3 normally doesn't support 480p on the PS2 but I suppose it's a full frame buffer game so it's rendered at 480p, just output from the PS2 at 480i and the PS3 is able to output at 480p.

Widescreen stretching is ok for SF3 too since the original resolution was 384x224 so it's technically a widescreen game that is stretched to 4:3 on arcade monitors...certainly when I play it on my TV I don't mind it stretched.  Good to know you can display it at 480p but 4:3 though too.

:D

Can't wait to get my PS3.

Not the best of pics (taken with my phone), but hopefully that gives you a good idea.  :)  I turned the filter off, since it made the game appear too blurry on the TV at that resolution, but it looks pretty good unfiltered, I think.  The SNK fighters I've tried seem to look better in 480p.

Even better, I just found out that my TV WILL accept the PS3's HDMI output, so I'm off to go get a cable now.  :D

i find PS2 games to look like complete crap through HDMI on the PS3, especially if they don't support 480p natively

all details are ugly and the text is flickering... old PS2 games definitely weren't made to accomodate a digital signal

and fatghost, behold!

Sega is set to release this lil' baby upon Virtua Fighter 5's release early next year, seems like something you'd like to acquire, eh?  8)

I've also read somewhere that if you use some kind of USB controller adapter, other controllers than the Sixaxis can be used to control PS2 games at least. So that's another possibility if you don't like the PS2's d-pad or the buttons. If that's indeed true, it'd be better to plug the Saturn pad onto that. :D

OK, here's a really, really, Obsessive request...

How does it look when you parry/use Yun's Genei-Jin?

Basically when the blue/green overlay is flashing on a character, is it smooth or does it look messed up?   ???

Either with the filter or without...honestly I find in those pics the filter looks nice :o

That joystick looks sweet.

Fatghost, I'll get on that...especially since I found the "memo" button on my TV remote.  :)  Makes taking pics a snap.

Meanwhile, here's some other games...

Soul Calibur III

Rumble Roses

KOF Maximum Impact 2

Guilty Gear XX SLASH

I don't know why many posters at GAF are saying it looks messed up. ???

Some games (pretty much all the 2D games I've tried) look great, but a lot of the 3D titles have pretty bad image quality, with incredibly blurry textures (It's the N64 all over again!) and/or a jaggy/pixelated look.  Godhand and Sengoku Basara 2 in particular looked AWFUL.  And I don't even want to comment on some of the PS1 games...   :lol

Meh,  who cares about 3D games...they'll all get awesome HD updates on PS3 anyway.

It's the 2D stuff that needs to be preserved.

No no no :lol

What I mean was, who cares how GT3 looks on PS3 since PS3 will get GTHD and eventually GT5.  Or MGS3, since PS3 gets MGS4.  Or VF4, since PS3 gets VF5. Or DMC3, since PS3 gets DMC4.

But PS3 won't likely get SF3,  so SF3 is more important to get right through BC.

Yeah, 360 BC updates are a sad joke.

Yup.  I gave up on waiting for more games to be compatible.  It's even worse with Japanese systems...so many games compatible with the U.S. 360 aren't here.   :-\

The PS3 has played every single game I've tried it on so far flawlessly.  Image quality due to the cable you use is another issue.

Basically Slash is "Guilty Gear XX Yeah-We-Know-Isuka-Sucked-So-Here's-Another-Update Edition."  It adds A.B.A., from Isuka, plus Order Sol, as playable characters, has some new moves, and new music.  The game came out for the PS2 back in April, and is also in Guilty Gear Jugdement on PSP, but only in the Japanese version-- The U.S. version got #Reload instead for whatever dumb reason.   ::)

There's already another version of XX currently testing in arcades, called "Accent Core."  Doesn't appear to have any new characters, just more tweaks and new backgrounds.  Enough is enough already; it's way past time for GG XXX.  At least with Hokuto No Ken last year, Arc showed that they are capable of making a new game.   :P

I didn't mess with the image settings, but this one looked a bit too pixellated on the PS3.  The non-Atomiswave game definitely don't look as good.

Garou: Mark Of The Wolves

Here's an Atomiswave-ported game, but without any filtering on the sprites:

Samurai Spirits Tenkaichi Kenkakuden

If the announcement about a Samurai Spirits collection coming out is actually true (I can't recall if it's a rumor or reality right now), then it being on that collection would be your best bet.  It's looking like an import-only game at this time...I think Europe is going to get it though.

I would love it if SNK took NGBC, KOF XI, and SSTK and put them up as downloadable games on either the PS3 or the 360 with online play (which they already have here with KDDI).

Bumping this thread because it is awesome.

Lyte Edge, did you ever get around to checking SF3 when Yun does his Genei-Jin/or when a character parries?

On my TV with PS2 (Sony TV upscaling PS2 480i) there is a noticeable interlacing artifact in the blue/green overlay on the sprite when parrying(with any character)/activating genei-jin (yun).

Does the PS3 fix this with the forced 480p output?
