The western media doesn't really know how to score RPGs. Watching gameplay videos of this I just don't get it yet. Maybe the interpersonal interactions are really good.

While the article has points, it still reeks of "pining for the good ol' days".

Yeah he is a fallen Fallout fan who wants things old school, but there is always a semblance of truth to his comments no matter how biased his perspective may be.

For example, the VATS system has always looked like garbage.

i put over 100 hours into oblivion

if i put half that into fallout 3, i will have gotten my $60 worth

i get a kick out of the oblivion backlash nowadays

"oblivion is shit"

"you really think so?  how long did you play it?"

"about 60 hours"

"..."

i'm not looking for the motherfucker to change my world, i just want a fun game, and every video i've seen so far makes it look like a lot of fun

if phil hartman were still alive he could make a new snl character, "the anal retentive gamer"

they wouldn't even have to write dialogue for him, he could just read message board posts

or that article you linked

VATS is optional.  You can do real time exclusively the whole way through as far as I know.

Thank God.

Oh, so you'd like to keep VATS, but without the slow motion.  Got it.

I dunno, I'm going to be treating this one like a FPS RPG since VATS really isn't doing it for me.  It annoys me when a game is halfway between two game types (kind of like the awful combat in KOTOR).

I can't wait for this game. It come out 2 days after my bday. So it's kind of neat. But 1 and 2 were awesome imo. Some good times playing those back in 97/98.

Hopefully this version will give me some good times in these troubled times.

Borys: The original Fallout 3... what's the story behind that? I love hearing about cancelled or completely reimagined videogames. Even if it's a bit bland-looking this day and age, graphically, it looks much more interesting than what we really got for Fallout 3.

VATs is terrible. Optional or not. They should have just gone with a standard FPS that had hints of RPG elements.

Agreed.  I don't understand how they thought it would be a good idea to put it in.  Does anyone like the idea of it?

Woot, just found out the PC version is supporting GFW Live, and therefore achievements. At $10 cheaper, better graphics, 360 controller support, and achievements, I will be getting the PC version.

Have they shown the PC version yet? I know they've shown the 360 version a lot since it had the button hud and it looked like butt.  I hope it looks better considering the 360 version really is ugly.  I feel bad for PS3 only owners who are getting the ugliest version of an ugly game.

Nah, they can leak the game without having a way to play it yet. That happened with Far Cry 2 the other night, except they made a crack the next morning.

Right what I mean is that the version available to me on my game console of choice looks fine. It didnt look ugly or any different from what I have seen of this game anywhere else.

Why do you need a console of choice?  You have enough money to play the best possible version every time.

They are in 1080p (varying source material) but look much better than anything I saw about the game on say gametrailers.

I thought the game looked like shit on any platform till I saw the hi rez QORE videos.

I subscribe to Qore yearly, I have seen every video on every episode, and almost every time their videos are of poor quality.  They may be 1080p, but the actual quality of the video is really bad.

I found someone who likes VATS - my mother who turns 70 in December and isn't very good at FPSs.  Good job Bethesda, you're reaching heretofore untapped markets with the innovation of VATS. :dur

I don't get the hate for VATS. I can see myself using it pretty often. I play first person shooters, but I don't see why I would bother aiming by hand when I can just statistically target whatever I need to.

I'm a huge Fallout fan from back in the day, and while this is a huge change, I'm really excited. Then again, I loved Oblivion...

I don't get the hate for it when it's optional and you can play the whole game without using it.

It's like getting angry at McDonald's that they give you the option of having lettuce on your burger when you don't like lettuce.

Personally, I don't hate VATS, but I don't understand at all why Bethesda thought it would be a good idea to include it at all.  And I'm not even a Fallout fan crying over changes.  I thought I was alone, but it seems most people think it looks distinguished mentally-challenged.

It's good that it's optional, but my main concern is that some enemies or parts of the game might be extremely difficult unless you resort to VATS.  A bit like those enemies with the hard armour and tiny eye where they're vulnerable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm getting the game and I'm sure I'll enjoy it as much as Oblivion in spite of being ugly, clumsy and clunky (like Oblivion).
