So far it's much better than Earthbound (not saying much, but still).

I was kinda taken aback when

The wife turned out to be dead. Well, I knew she was gonna die, but I expected something like, you fight a boss and then find her lying down on the ground, and later the nurse tells you she's sorry and there's nothing they can do.

I didn't expect:
"I have good news and bad news. Good news is, I found a Huge Drago Fang! You can use it as an awesome weapon! The bad news is, I found it sticking in your wife's heart. Sorry." (seriously, that's almost exactly what he says)

That and Flint's subsequent emotional breakdown where he beats up the helpful townspeople with a stick.

Playing this on my psp.

Uhhh

I don't even like Earthbound and I'm enjoying this a lot. I can't imagine what it's like for someone who actually loved that game.

I love how fast the battles are. They're probably more fast than your typical Dragon Quest battle, which is a true feat.

The characters are cool and got tons of personality. Even though some characters don't talk, it doesn't matter because the animation is so damn good and the game has a great way of conveying their emotion without them having to talk at all.

Game is pretty fun.

I wish the enemies had like, idle animations though. The battles STILL look flat and boring despite the transition from SNES to GBA, 10 + years after the fact.

Oh and the music...

I use gpSP Kai v3.2

one tip: make sure to unzip your gba roms. make sure the .gba file is on there because the emulator sometimes has trouble identifying certain .zip files.

Yet again my normalcy stops me from getting the full potential of a game.

And while playing on the PSP is great, I have always been a bit weary of playing full games on emulators, especially ones that are in beta. I might break out my gamecube and use the Gameboy player or use my SP. Micro is probably too small.

you will get an ability in ch 2 that helps you do combos

then you can memorize the specific combo for enemies without having to do the heartbeat

the combo system isn't even introduced until chapter 2 so don't even sweat it yet

it's not based on the beat of the music but the beat of enemies heartbeat, which you can hear ifyou put them to sleep. you get that ability in ch 2. So every enemy has a different heart beat, you see.

plus theres a ghost in that room with the piano that gives you infinite rotten eclairs and when you climb the wall another ghosts takes those and gives you beef jerky so you could grind

The more you level up, the more points the buffs/debuffs will add/subtract.

And no, they really are necessary. It seems like a small amount, but it adds up quickly.
