World of Warcraft: Episode 3: A New Patch

:drudgeNEW OFFICIAL THREAD:drudge

Patch 3.0.2 is OUT!

http://www.wowinsider.com/echoes-of-doom/

51-point talents, achievements, barbershop, calendar UI, Inscription available.

As with Burning Crusade, the game has been reworked to the point of practically complete newness. I have no idea what to do with my character anymore.

Who's achievement farming before Northrend comes out? I am levelling my fishing so I can fish in the Dalaran fountain for the vanity coins...

Completing the Dalaran fountain fishing achievement rewards a vanity coin trinket you can flip for a special animation and text emote.

A few other achievements rewards non-combat pets, tabards, mounts, or titles. Nothing that affects gameplay, but cool things to show off.

over 500 achievements to start

also a policy of complete transparency on what you need to do to achieve any achievement

none of this JRPG style "Do you find pudding delicious? Try eating a lot of desserts..." crap

it puts an icon on your buff bar that lasts for 2 hours but it doesn't really "do" anything (except make you happy)

Almost bumped the old thread for this.  :o

Muradin was pretty stable yesterday afternoon. I hadn't been playing my hunter much because I heard they were nerfing xp reqs in outland.

When I last logged, I was 110k xp to 62. When I checked yesterday I was 1 away.

It also seems like they buffed the hell out of hunter, I don't have any fantastic gear, and I was ripping through same level mobs way faster than I remember. I got 1/3 of the way to 63 last night in less than 2 hours.

Also like the new intro and loading screens, but that's just superficial. Great patch IMO.  :hyper

My main tree is Assassination and I've been putting my extras into (I think) combat.  The changes to Assassination sound good, more improvements than nerfs, but the new talents in there don't seem so interesting to me :-/

Some of the changes that were immediately apparent had to do with the mounts in a player's inventory. With the new expansion comes a new pet tab on your character sheet. What this does is do away the need to have your mounts or pets taking up slots in your inventory. Rather, they'll each take up one of 12 slots in your pets tab, keeping those precious slots in your bag open, giving you extra room while questing. It's a really nice tweak, especially considering how much loot you'll receive during raids, where you'll need every bit of space possible to make the most of things.

This is cool. When I was playing the beta I couldn't believe how much awesome stuff was constantly dropping in the instances and even off mobs. Having more space=win

Ah, nerd drama.

Since I haven't played my Ele Shaman for months, all my backup healing gear set from ZA + others might be an ele upgrade now. Hopefully all my fellow Resto Shamans still love me.

Lich King sounds fantastic from the new Eurogamer preview. I really haven't kept up with it much because I was kind of expecting to be nowhere near 68 when it came out. I think I may hit it now, so I'm kind of psyched.

Almost at 66 atm, gotta decide between Aldor or Scryer, although from what I've seen it doesn't matter all that much.

Bring on the expansion, and freebie greens that beat out current blues! EZ mode marches on.

I don't know. Some greens may be better than early Outland blues. My Mage is in PVP/Kara/Heroic epics and hasn't had a single upgrade at all in any of the Northrend starter zones yet.

I was exaggerating, but yeah. There should be a lot of good quest stuff though, especially at 68.

@FatalT, If you can pace yourself to keep a full rested bar (easier at higher levels I've found) leveing is a total cakewalk. Just questing will pull you through. I played for around 2 hours last night, and got around 200k xp.

Coming from FFXI, it's just insane. Wow showers you with XP and gold. I'm just wondering how brutal 70-80 may be, XP wise.

I read that they've made leveling from 60-70 a lot easier. I struggled getting to lv70 for a bit but that was mainly due to not finding people to do instances with. 60-65 or so was fun as hell for me because everyone was doing the HP instances but once you get closer to 70 no one wants to do shit.

WOOT

just hit 375 Fishing, 375 Cooking - ready for Lich King to hit

I also fished up Mr. Pinchy (1/500 drop from rare fishing pools). :D But the achievement isn't just to fish him up ... it's to have him grant you his pet. ;_; Which is about a 50% chance per Mr. Pinchy. (20% chance per wish * 3 wishes).

Now to get started on the achievements for the <Salty> title...

having badass lv70 gear (purples from heroics, pvp rewards, badges, etc) is gonna make the lv70 instances a breeze though right? I wonder how far someone could skip.

Utgarde Keep was pretty easy for me (despite some crazy boss battles) and I didn't have any purples

Depends. I looked over the loot from the first instances and none are an upgrade for me yet. I am thinking I might blast through to the second tier of instances.

The loot seems better than Kara and S1 stuff, but not as good as the IQD badge loot or t6 stuff. ZA loot I think is better as well.

It will be nice for my pally, which I got to 60 today and tried tanking BF with.  It was not as smooth as I'd like. No wipes, but some messy pulls. Trying to line of sight and avoid mines created problems.

Ret pallies are nutz right now. Every BG, top damage dealers and healers, just from their hits healing. The ret in my group was pulling aggro off me and I was spamming my threat skills.

Is it too late to jump into Warcraft? I've played it as horde and never really made it very far and I'm thinking about going with Alliance but this WotLK stuff looks pretty ballin' Though it would be my luck that all this cool shit ends as soon as I buy WotLK.

It's never too late. The game is always changing, it's not anywhere near the game that came out in 2004.

And depending on what you mean by 'cool shit', WoW's been chock full of it, with or without WotLK, since the beginning. Enjoy.
