Getting a new mp3 player
« on: November 25, 2006, 03:45:16 PM »
I currently have a creative zen jukebox (20gig) but it's a big heavy brick.

I was looking at this one, think it's a pretty good deal

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2341300&Sku=C44-3322&SRCCODE=LINKSHARE&CMP=AFC-LINKSHARE&AffiliateID=NKa3hZyYoHA-PvKX70jTUPeOID1N97DFsA

and no I dont want a fucking ipod.

Any thoughts?

The blue sparkles look incredibly tacky, and you can rest assured those speakers that come with it are worthless. Otherwise, everything I read about Creative's players have been positive regarding features and sound quality, so I don't think you could go wrong at $100 for an 8GB. It's an older model and doesn't have the aesthetics of the current line, but if that doesn't concern you I'd say it's a heck of a value.

You should get a Zune.

Those look really cool, actually. Nice display and everything. Sucks about the gimped features, but I wonder if you can fully unlock those protections somehow through software.

At this price the speakers are a gimmie.

I dont care what it looks like, I just care about size and features, and this seems to be a hell of a deal.

Creative and Iriver make the best  mp3 players. Your choice is very good, however if you are considering video playback, my suggestion stomps over everything ipod or zune.

Yeah, there are a lot of people working on unlocking the protections.  So we'll see.  But it has some great audio quality (way better than the ipod) and the screen is of pretty good quality too.  The Zune software as of right now is pretty lacking.  But I expect that to be fixed soon.

You can get good MP3 players for cheaper than a comparable Ipod and some people have problems with the sound quality.  I thought the sound quality on my Nano was awesome until I heard a Creative mp3 player.  but IMO, the sound quality in the Zune stomps everything else I've heard.

No it just plain out has more features video wise, it plays videos at twice the resolution of the zune, plays more video codecs, no need to convert most of my videos, etc.

Smaller screen though.

I despise itunes, and I never cared for the ipod line, the price is too much for capacity you get.

You can get much more storage for much less money.

Oh, and Gwharrrr yargh and so on.....

MicroPhoto is awesome for 100 bucks.
Vision: M for 200 is also awesome.

Stay away from the vision unless you want video. Cause video on zune is the only good thing its go going for it. Music wise its a pain in the ass.

I'd say stick with the creative players they always sound the best.

There's nothing cheaper per capacity than the 80GB iPod.

?

I wasn't comparing video playback from the Zune to anything.

I'm just saying; sure you can get cheaper & better DAPs on the low end of the iPod storage scale but at the high end, you can't fuck with them

I know, just giving you shit, but fuck 80gigs is a bit much, I think I'd top out at around 30 to 40 max.

I dont even want video, I have no situation that I would need it, my ds will fill longer than 5 minute voids for me

My friend has the 30gb zen vision, and it's a sexy piece of tech, but I don't wanna blow $250 on a media player right now....
