Just got my voter stuff in the mail but I"m considering skipping this year's election since it's a foregone conclusion in CA anyway.  A friend told me that voters get selected more often for juror service and that seems to be the case ever since I started voting.  So is it true or is it  just another urban myth?

I know in Oklahoma they used to use voter registration lists to pick jurors, but since people just wouldn't sign up to vote, they've now gone to using a list of licensed drivers.

I don't know, but I wouldn't mind getting picked for jury duty. I've never had it happen and I think it would be cool to do it at least once.

My old boss was on the jury for Hugo Selenski, a guy who presumably killed people and buried them in his backyard near where I went to college. That's pretty cool, lol. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugo_Selenski

Whenever my grandfather gets called, he's always like "I hate all people" and they don't pick him.

Even so, you should show up to vote no on Prop 8.

my mom got picked for jury duty once and she's not even a citizen (so she had to refuse). so i guess maybe it's true, at least if you're a registered voter they know you're a citizen and they don't have to waste time sending out letters to other people.

this - with the Dem landslide practically a given at this point, Prop 8 is the new final front in the culture wars

I want to make "NO" stickers I can put over people's "Yes on 8" bumper stickers.

Someone keeps putting a "vote yes on 8" sign outside our apartment complex, and my wife keeps having to throw it away.

Sounds like you don't want to save your marriage. You'll be sorry if prop 8 fails

I really don't understand wanting to vote Yes on 8 ... like I can't understand it.

Are the gays going to come into your house and start buttfucking, destroying your marriage? ???

Seriously, what are we "saving" here by removing and nullifying a bunch of marriages?

sigh, people

P.S. Your wife rox

I got picked twice while I was in graduate school, so I was exempt. I'd actually like to be part of jury at some point in my life.

That prop 8 shit is the same as the abortion issue. Some people feel a certain way so they think EVERYONE else must adhere to their values. If you see one of these self righteous fuck, do humanity a favor and punch them in the face as hard as you can.

I don't understand how gay marriage will have a negative effect on the community/country as a whole. The divorce rate among heterosexual couples is past 50%. Giving a 10% minority of the country the right to marry isn't going to fuck anything up.

I suppose from their perspective the idea of teaching gay marriage to young children is a problem: if being gay is a choice (their belief not mine) exposing young children to this way of thinking at an early age would increase the number of homosexuals - which means more diseases spread around and sin in general. I guess. smh

This is tangential to the topic, but has any study, outside of Kinsey's with it's biased sample and questionable methods, supported this number. Not that the number is important in deciding whether someone should have the right to marry.

Not that I've seen. It's definitely a rather small minority but that doesn't give people the right to discriminate against them

Maybe you missed this:

I don't think any survey could correctly answer that question Malek.
No, but it can answer how many people are openly gay, and most studies show that number is below 5%. Obviously, you're not going to get the Haggard's of the world to admit that they're gay.

I didn't miss it, just wanted to point that out again - the absurdity that such a small percentage of people could somehow threaten the health of an institution that's already on life support thanks to godless heterosexuals

It depends.  i know many openly gay people that wouldn't admit to being gay on paper, so the number would be even more skewed.

Is that a reference to Evilbore?

I hope the little girl in the video recovered. She probably never knew gays could marry before reading that script, now she's on the road to homosexuality. Shame shame  :'(
