just to clarify, i don't give a fuck who it offends, but this kind of religious sensitivity (insert giant rolleyes) only seems to apply to select religions

fallout 3 wins, hope it's full of religiously offensive material and stereotypes

Dic took out a bunch of references to the cross when they brought Sailor Moon over.

Countless games have been censored for religious crap, but i think that is a little 1988

I didn't say i wasn't going to buy it

In fact, it's already paid for

But once I sit down and start playing Guitar Hero World Tour, then Fallout 3, then Gears of War 2, then Call of Duty World at War, I just won't have any time for it, and I would have had it released on Tuesday

EDIT: forgot about Left 4 Dead

LBP, sealed until December

That was only acknowledged long after the fact. And, well, those guys weren't going to tip anything over/burn anything to the ground over the supposed offensive content.

I'm not convinced that Sony would have cared, had it been some other game. But I don't think they want LBP to be tied to controversy, it's not the right game for that.

Microsoft recalled that shitty Dream Factory fighting game for the exact same reason LBP was delayed.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakuto_Chojin

Quote
It was pulled off the shelves in early 2003 for offensive religious content, namely that it had verses from the Quran being chanted as part of the background sound effects the song "Love/Hate Chant" is an example of this controversy. It was later re-released with the offending content removed.

It's only a week, and shit, the week is already stacked like crazy unless you are a poor PS3 only owner.  Fable 2 for that week, LBP for the next, Fallout 3 on hold until I give a shit.

Well, it's a bit like hanging around touchy people. The more they whine about small things, the more you want to give them something to whine about. And considering the complete lack of self-distance of this group, a very small thing would probably become a pretty big thing.

All I'm doing is checking the Target close by to see if they have a copy, i they don't, it's no big deal.

I don't know if I'm shocked at the reaction to this or not since my opinion on the majority of those who get worked up over something like this is that they were dropped as babies, but this has really exceeded my incredibly low expectations.

So it was some words from the holy book that offended Muslims in Call of Duty 4, not...every other part of the game?

No. As said earlier in the thread; there was nothing removed from CoD4, it was just banned from sale in Middle-Eastern countries. These idiots who threw a fit about LBP heard that and naturally assumed that something was removed so they mentioned it so they could get what they wanted out of Sony.

Laughing and taunting those people is a legitimate character flaw.

seriously, sfags complaining when people say "the PS3 has no games" are shooting themselves in the foot. The reaction to A WHOLE WEEK delay is incredible and the only logical solution is they have nothing to play right now.

therefore, we conclude: as PS3 fans cannot wait 1 week for 1 game, there are no games on the PS3 worth playing. Therefore, in this instance "the PS3 has no games" is true - another Xboat victory.

(awaits Fist's rage!)

;)

look at what else theyre excited by

Killzone 2 beta
Resistance 2 beta
Socom online with no servers
Motorstorm 2 demo

is it any wonder they are desperate for something to play and things being delayed for a week?

It's not like the song is some dude yelling phrases from the Qur'an at the top of his lungs. It's been around for 2 years and they probably just liked the way it sounded. There was no reason for this European game company to question it.

The real reason for this delay, Sony doesn't want LBP to go head-to-head with Wii Music.

well that was a whole level.  this actually offends some muslims (probably not most) and only requires a very small change to one song.

Why didn't someone catch this earlier?  ???
I think it's because this was a fake "beta" only a month or so before the game released.  A muslim didn't even catch a quranic verse until it was too late to fix the game by the originally intended release date.  I know that there's a lot of muslim music with quranic verses being sung in them so this may also just be Sony bending too far backwards.

Eel O'Brian

a "very small change?"

these things are pressed, shipped, and sitting in store warehouses, however many hundreds of thousands that will now have to be returned and replaced

this is going to cost them a ton of cash

it's not the delay, it's why it was delayed

once you establish a precedent of such public acquiescence, you can't ever go back

forget about manbabies whining that they're not getting to play it it next week, the scarier bunch are the people who think this was in any way, shape, or form "the right thing to do"

smh

Yes it was. Some English moron at Media Molecule  put a song on the game thinking it sounded cool without finding out what the lyrics said. The song offended people.  People complained and Sony instead of getting worse press and backlash decided to fix this before it got into consumers hands. It will only take a week to fix. And people pathetically enough are lashning out at religion, because they cant play their shitty "Make your own plataformer" game for a week.

Its completely pathetic. If you wanted anymore proof on how SFags have fallen into the Manbaby Nbot caliber level this gen, the reactions to this "incident" are proof enough. That thread at Gaf is one of the more pathetic things ive seen in quite a while.

Fuck Muslims because i cant play LBP for a week! My world is ending. I dont have more games on my shitty system so i have to lash out!

Fuck. Go Play Saints Row. Go Play Deadspace, go play Fable if you have an X360. Theres a shitload of games to tide you for a week.

i never said any of that

but again, they never would have done this had it been a song offensive to christians, and there's evidence of that in the shrugging off of the complaints about resistance, where an even more public complaint was made about the material

spin it all you want, but it's the truth, and it's a cowardly precedent to set

if you let this go, you will never have a leg to stand on in any future complaints you might have about censorship

On the bright side, the game can stay in the "Oh yeah?  What about-" PS3 comeback lists for another week.   you know, like whenever someone says there's nothing in the future for the PS3 and someone responds "Oh yeah?  killzone 2, LBP, Socom, Lair 2, Heavenly Sword 2 etc"

Why not?  I dont think anybody at MM had any idea who this guy was or what the lyrics said. And this guys song was going to get 10 times more worldwide recognition now.  I dont think anybody even knew who this guy was before this.

How is this censorship again? i really doubt the lyrics in one song in one created level of LBP was part of Media Molecules artistic expresion, when they didnt even know what the words said.

the removal of objectionable or sensitive material is pretty much the definiton of censorship
