Smart people are dumb.
« on: October 17, 2008, 01:05:45 PM »
He's a PHD student so hes smart but lacks anything resembling common sense. For example he cooks on a george foreman grill without using the grease tray. This lets all the grease just drain right onto the counter WTF. How can you be so fucking dense and not think this would be a problem. So he does this and then I end up wiping it a few days later. However, it leaves a smell that absolutely revolts my girlfriend. He finally came around because he is having a get together with other PHD students where I can only assume they talk about how stupid they are.

Remember I told you guys he had a $400 (somehow it was even more than he first told me) library fine, well I was picking things up and found old library books in the water heater closet. He was like "Oh where were those I need to return those."

He constantly tells me he HATES school. He hates being a TA and hates the classes. He even hates writing papers. When I ask him why hes a grad student he just tells me he doesn't know what he would do if he graduated. He once asked me if it was alright if he let his undergrad students make up the test questions and grade their own papers.  :lol

there's a difference between a degree lackey and someone who's genuinely intelligent.

I think is genuinely intelligent (I shudder to say that). He is a foreign student and speaks 5 languages fluently.

Sounds like you could learn a thing or two.  ;)

I consider myself fairly intelligent and incredibly open minded but I swear I make some of the dumbest mistakes ever.

I remember during my freshman year of college some gal who recently got her PhD killed herself because she didn't know what to do anymore...

I know a guy who buys new clothes because he doesn't know how to to wash them.

If I was wealthy, I would consider doing this so I wouldn't have to iron my work clothes every day.

He just lets them pile up on his floor until goodwill takes them away.

You can hire someone to do this for you for cheaper.

I do the laundry in our house, I just hate ironing every night.

I guess I could iron everything for the week on Sunday, but then I'd be stuck wearing whatever I ironed.

I'm wearing a purple sweatshirt and pants with bleach stains on them that haven't been washed in ages. :P

Friday is casual day for school staff. I'm wearing jeans, a brown button up shirt, and a brown corduroy blazer.

Most days it's slacks, dress shirt and a tie.

Our corporate lawyer is one of the most socially distinguished mentally-challenged people I've ever met.

There is also a big difference between not knowing something and intentionally not wanting to know something.

sounds like a few co-workers I know

on occasion they'll come up with some really needlessly elaborate but ingenious way to do something incredibly simple, and then when they bring it up someone inevitably just says, "Uhhhh..."  They truly think it's the best way too.

The OP was kind of jarring.  It would be a lot better if it started with "I know this guy who..." rather than just "He".

I feel like I'm barging in on the middle of a conversation.

Smart people are just dense, not stupid or dumb.
