Scorebore: Eurogamer gives Fable II a 10/10

Quote
Fable II's generous and forgiving template isn't one that many games choose to follow, but it proves convincingly that if you're clever enough, you can create a consistent challenge without resorting to mindless punishment, and you can craft a sharply told story that still has room for the player to express themselves within. Inclusive and often thought-provoking, this is a daring portrait of a game-world with all the failure cut out, and it's hard not to love a game that loves you so much in return. Fable II will charm you, thrill you, and leave you very, very happy.

Edge gave it a 9.

Come on duckman, copy paste your shit about the 3 year old resistance review and that gun or something. It's not a eurogamer review thread without that.

Can we also claim that it got a high score since Lionhead is a brit dev? lol

Once I finish up Dead Space later today I'll be ready for Fable 2.  LBP getting pushed back a week means Fable 2 gets priority over Fallout 3.

I've been playing it a good bit the last day or two and I'm in love, takes a shit on Fable 1 so far.

And I'm pretty sure that gives you corruption points, not evil points.

I forget lol, but in this game there are three different spectrums for your character. Good/Evil, Pure/Corrupt, and I forget the third. I think pure/corrupt mainly has to do with your financial decisions, and it changes the look of your character in a different way from good/evil.

Instruction manual:

Good and Evil

Many problems have both good and evil solutions. Your choices influence you physically: perform noble deeds and you'll be a dashing figure, give in to your evil impulses and your visage become the stuff of nightmares. Villagers will react accordingly.

Purity and Corruption

Purity makes Heroes more attractive, while corruption makes them ugly. Purity is determined by more subtle factors than g/e, such as greed, gluttony, and laziness.

So I guess you can fix your Pub Games penalty by wearing a nicer shirt.

OK, I have more info.

It only affects you if you have a shitton of money, millions. If you amass that much money in the game legally, you still get corruption points. The penalty only comes into play if you don't spend it on houses and shit, if you choose to hoard it. You'll gain corruption points every few minutes automatically.

I only have 185k, I will probably merge my character, But not right away.

As if I've ever ripped on Fable.

:gloomy Lazy, budget GAFers  :gloomy

But sure, we can mention how Eurogamer apparently doesn't play the games that it reviews, if that makes you happy. One such mistake is plenty enough to sink the credibility entire site.

Viscen, how open is the game now? And how strong is the storyline? That was the greatest shortcoming of the first one, IMO; the story bit felt a somewhat compromised.

I'm only like 2 hours in, I haven't had time to play a whole lot since I got it. But the pacing is already better - the little kid portion is only half an hour long. The very first area you step into as an adult is bigger than any one area in Fable 1, and has lots of secrets scattered around and several exits. The first town you're in is small, but you can buy all the little shantys and carts and rent them. Story seems like it'll be better this time around but I can't say yet.

I'm about to enter Bowerstone, I expect it to be pretty huge judging by the snippit of it I got to see as a child.

I only have a crossbow, but it's way funner to use than the bows in Fable 1. Magic is awesome too, you can just tap it to get your typical area of effect spell, but if you hold B you can charge it up and focus it on one enemy - by locking on, or by zooming in to an over the shoulder view to manually aim.

One complaint is that you have to stick to one save file.

House buying/seling is pretty sophisticated too. Each residence has a base value, and then a list of factors that add or reduce value to bring you to your final price. That includes decorations, the overall economy of the town, whether or not it is vacant, whether or not the owner likes you, and if anyone has been killed while living there.

I am buying Fallout 3 solely on the hope that it will really be Oblivion with guns. If the reviews are bad, I might change my mind. Just not enough time/money to get all the great games the week they come out.

So you can't find another player? is there at least an arena where you can do this? That is a bit lame.  They should have done it like the old beat em up games where there was a 2-player mode A and mode B which decided if you can damage your friend.  It was always fun to beat up a pal in those games for taking your pizza.

You know you've become a corporate shill when Teamxbox and Official Xbox Magazine gives a lower score to a 360 game than you. They probably did it because they felt bad they gave LBP such a high score for a PS3 game. And for the record it's a very badly written review.

Eurogamer with they 360 vs PS3 fake comparisons and Xbox Live is better than PSN crap is shining as a joke site lately even more than kotaku.

Quote from: J-Rzez
Not surprising to say so in the least from Eurogamer. And I'm very skeptical due to other games that had hugely inflated scores from them in the past, that were anything but deserving the scores. They do have a clear bias, like many other outlets.

IGN only gains credibility when they give a game you're looking forward to a good score, then it goes down when they give it something bad.  Same case with Eurogamer.  GTA4 getting a 10 from both places doesn't help since that could always be an credibility breaker.

I see I forgot the paragraph following it too, still about the dog:
Quote
The dog is a success. I can't say that you will fall in love with your dog and keep a special place in your heart for him even after the disc's stopped spinning in the drive, but some will. And the rest can at least appreciate a canine companion who is helpful and almost never gets in the way or acts as a nuisance. You never control the dog. It acts independently and wisely. And though, on occasion, you may see him walk through a closed door or witness the textures on his fur disappear, he is a well-crafted pet.

Yes. Waiting a few weeks for a consensus to emerge seems eminently prudent. If markedly out-of-keeping with the XFE ethos.

This writing is offensively bad.  What shit gaming blog did they hire this loser out of?
The editor in chief of IGN, the largest and most popular gaming site. Pretty sad, but indicative of the state of gaming "journalism" as a whole. Anyways, he's the same guy that called GTA IV's script oscar worthy, if that means anything

Can't wait to play this game, but i'm gonna jump on Dead Space and Far Cry 2 first. I'll pick up fable 2 in december or something.

Coming along for the journey is your dog. If you're a cat lover, this may not be the game for you. A dog is a hero's best friend, as we all know, and your dog is no exception. He loves you unconditionally. You can scold him all you want, leave his wounds unhealed, or never pay him any attention whatsoever. It doesn't matter. You are his master and he will always be on your side -- even if you're a total jerk. Play with your dog or give him treats and you'll probably feel better about yourself. Either way, your dog is a welcome ally. He's your pathfinder, sniffing out treasure chests and hidden items, warning of approaching danger, and tearing at the throats of fallen enemies. You may never give him a single kindness, but by the end of Fable II, you'll have become completely reliant on his abilities.

this is why IGN reviews are 10 pages long.  Sounds great though!
