So, those of you "in the know" may know that Dan Deacon is touring with what's called the "Round Robin Baltimore Showcase". It is fuck awesome. Rather than have bands play sets, there are like 9 bands and they all set up in a circle around the room. They bounce back and forth, playing a song and then handing off to someone else.
It was the best time I have ever had in my whole life. The variety of music was awesome- You had Dan Deacon doing his electronic noise pop at like 200 decibels, there was a dude cranking chiptunes, an awesome hardcore throwback band, a gnarly doom metal band, some blissed out shoegaze dude, some guy named DJ Dog Dick who was busting out sick big-bass club shit. It was great. I maintain that dancing to chiptunes is the dumbest thing you can do UNLESS you are doing it with 400 other people who are drunk as hell and out of their minds with excitement. It was like a totally awesome dance party from the year TEN MILLION. Everyone was super friendly, people were just excited and it was nice to be reminded that. Maybe it's part of living in New York and seeing a lot of bands and watching flavors of the week come and go that I forget that there's still like new, really new, shit happening. Watching kids freak out to caustically loud squealing wave forms is awesome.
Also, WHAM CITY live was a dream come true. The tour is still going on. You should go. It was only 8 bucks.
