and yeah, I am okay with them jettisoning the boat plot, which was always the weakest part. the intent of the plan is awesome and powerful, the actual details were always a bit goofy

even if the movie completely blows (which honestly seems unlikely at this point) it will be gorgeous for fans of the book to watch for certain

New ending basically serves the same purpose and the resulting events remain the same as well.

Yeah, there's still some potential problems with the new ending, but the ending in the comic book was just crazy.

terrible. the new ending completely misses the point of the comic. the comic was a cautionary tale against giant squids/psychic blast and the dangers they present, i guess the point went over zack synder's head. at the very least they could have provided some other monster to fill the role maybe king kong wrecking havoc on new york or godzilla terrorizing japan, you know for the cross-market appeal. really disappointing.

I'll be first to see this movie, no doubt, but I'm still very iffy on it. Everything I've seen looks awfully $:-\$ except for the picture from the 40s.
