I dreamt I met Prof. Prole
« on: October 25, 2008, 12:13:36 AM »
In the dream, I was a bit surprised because I'd always imagined him as kind of a lunkhead, but in person his cynicism carried an undercurrent of wistful yearning a la Bill Murray's softer roles.

He's actually kind of like Fabio and John Romero rolled into one.

I keep having a dream that I'm being chased by some type of Terminator. I get a call saying I'm being hunted so I start running, trying to hide but I get killed everytime. One time I was on a dock but there were no boats, so I jumped off and hid under it. But while floating I saw the Terminator was right behind me - so I started swimming under the water only to get shot in the back

Take DMAE!  Many report intense and vivid dreams after taking it.   I used to get them, but I think I'm mostly immune to the effect at this point, because I kinda expect it.

Tell me more about this DMAE, what will it do for me while I'm awake, or do you take it before going to sleep?

Tell me more about this DMAE, what will it do for me while I'm awake, or do you take it before going to sleep?

It quickly metabolizes into acetylcholine, which is an important neurotransmitter in several parts of the nervous system.  The effects I care about are in regards to memory, but it has other neurological functions in the brain.  It also makes me stutter and stammer less, and it acts as a mild mood elevator--if I haven't taken it for a few days, I can definitely tell, although I wouldn't label it as full on depression, just a sort of pessimism.

The bad side to DMAE (specifically DMAE, not acetylcholine in general) is that there have been some studies that show it decreases the life span of certain cells in certain animals.  That sounds kinda scary, but nothing conclusive is known.  Just because it does that in some animals doesn't mean it will do it in humans.

Also, falling acetylcholine levels is linked to Alzheimer's disease, although I don't think it is known if that's a symptom or if boosting acetylcholine will improve things.

Acetylcholine can also be boosted much less efficiently with b vitamins.  I think when done with b vitamins, it regulates how much acetylcholine you will get, whereas DMA bypasses certain steps in production.

Forgetting or remembering?

All in all it doesn't sound too awesome. I enjoy my pessimism.

I too have had an eerily similar dream, only I woke up in the bathroom, naked and feeling violated.

Back in my shut-in 24/7 IRC addict days, aka my entire adolescence, I seriously used to dream entirely in monospaced text.
